Great new this - it is also on the home page of Grey Nomads - very interesting to see where and when, and if it happens.

Good to see a few towns are thinking GNs.

It's starting to look like some towns and councils are waking up to the fact they are missing out on big dollars and survival. The more they wake up and provide facilities at a fair price, the more we will probably stay there.

Yes one step up from free camping but if is good basic setup without bells and whistles at fair price would be great , But I have noticed that show grounds on the whole are over priced and would rather pay the extra for a basic caravan park . Gold Coast maybe looking at getting a slice of the Grey Nomads money time will tell at the final price of camping

I live in south east Qld. Most of my camping dollars go to northern N.S.W. coast. Lots of parks there provide basic clean facilities at reasonable prices. Usually deals going. I stayed at the reserve, at Evans Head last week. 5 paces from river bank. $90 for four nights, power & water, newly renovated tiolets & showers.

The Gold Coast & Sunshine coast might wake one day.

Cheers Pete

That's a lovely spot, that reserve at Evan's Head. Pity they don't allow dogs though.

Gold coast city council run a lot of caravan parks on the Gold Coast and are very expensive , I can not see them giving to cheap of camping fee just looking at how they can bring more money in camping fees at a lower rate than there caravan park , Just like showgrounds throw you some power , water and basis toilet and shower for not much cheaper than a caravan park

Sounds like they are on the right track, but... Why would anybody stay among the crowds at the gold coast when you have great places much quieter only a couple hours drive away?

Yes Gerty our home is only hour and half from Gold Coast would not stay there if the council offered free camping with water and power provided it is a rat hole

For most of my travelling I would avoid cities like the plague Gerty, but sometimes I'd like to visit a zoo or museum, or go to the Gardening expo, or even just arrive the night before when meeting someone at the airport. A cheap place to park legally and reasonably safely amongst other travellers would make that possible (and hopefully enjoyable).

Hi All,
We are on the road South from Qld. To Vic. And will be on the Gold Coast for a couple of nights on the way....
I see it's not that GN friendly, but has anyone got a tip on wher we might stop for a refresh ?
We do have a small dog which hasn't been an issue in SW Qld., but worth mentioning.
Thanks again,

The Gold Coast is 'just down the road' from me, so I'd have no need to use whatever facility they come up with.

And even though the GC not everyone's cup of tea, there are many nice places to visit in the area. They're talking about Mudgereeba which is a nice spot to base yourself. Depending on exactly where at Mudgereeba.

Bill & Lesley, there are a few on the Tweed River that may be nice. Or there's a free camp at Stotts Island. It's in the Camps book but I don't have it on hand to give you a number. Or at the northern end, a few GN's have stayed at Jacobs Well CP and been happy with it. Not exactly the GC but out of the rat race. But be prepared for the usual biteys, mozzies, sandflys and midges.

I've also just come across Guanaba Creek Campsite, through Oz camps. http://ozcamps.net/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29

http://www.scoutsqld.com.au/index.cfm?MenuID=309

I may have to go for a drive to check this place out. sounds nice.

Boyds Bay CP on the Tweed is recommended by friends who go there quite often.

I have no trouble with being in the apparent minority   ... but I often enjoy a week or so just down the road at Tallebudgera.  We get one of the more expensive waterfront sites (the ones that are slowly being replaced by cabins).

I can drag the kayaks a few meters across a white sandy beach & paddle up the river for exercise or to catch lots (usually) of whiting bream or flathead .. plenty of yabbies for free bait too.

There's a bike path at my front door that goes for miles along the surf front.  Lots of resturants (& shops) nearby.

Plenty of things for the Grand kids too.

As was mentioned earlier .. very expensive but worth it in my opinion.

Although I've never stayed there, I know others who have and been very happy with it. It's certainly a beautiful spot, and as you say, great for the grandies.

 Hi All,

We stay at Boyds Bay CP on a semi permanent basis while looking after parents and find it really nice here. The park is full at the moment

but still clean and quiet.

Totally agree with Cupie, we had a permanent van many moons ago at Tallebudgera and loved it, wish we still had it!!!

Cheers Jan
