WA get together, Rockingham (south of Perth)

Hi all, we are in the area for the next two months, and would like to arrange for a get together of as many GN forumites as possible.

  • Location is yet to be advised, but we are looking for a park with ample parking (especially if you arrive with your "home" in tow), electric bbqs and covered picnic areas (in case of rain) in or around the Rockingham area.
  • Probably weekend - either Saturday or Sunday - but if general concesus comes back as week day, we are ok with that
  • BBQ lunch, BYO meat, but bring shared salad, small platter or sweet and drinks.
  • Date:  Given the time needed to collate, and allowing for anyone who needs to travel, I am thinking towards end of August.

So far, I have at least 13 expressions of interest from forumite avatars - so that could be as many as 15 people or 30 people.....

So if you are interested (and have not already been in touch with me) please respond to this thread.

Also, If anyone has a preference of date or location, I am happy to hear from you, but remember, we can't please all of the people, all of the time!  The more the merrier, lets beat the Greens Lake mob in Victoria.

Looking forward to meeting you all,

John & Lorraine

"Dunmowin"

Possible site for a day meet up could be Wells Park on the Kwinana Beach foreshore. Large open area , ample parking available, new ablutions block. Plenty of others arounf, this one is just my 2 cents worth.  Looking forward to meet up

Yes , there are a couple of covered pavillions It is at the northern end of the Rockingham foreshore. There area number of spots along that area with small pavillions, barbies etc, but parking on weekends could be a little difficult, depending on numbers

Yes, I did think of parking and availability of picnic areas during weekends, and must be mindful that not everyone is retired, that some may still be working.

Not always able to please everyone Dunmowin, but suggest those wanting to meet up give you their preference (ie; week day or weekend) I suppose if someone is retired it wouldn't make much difference if it was on a weekend (so the "workers" could attend).

I am hoping to get to wherever, but will depend on time/date etc.

Thanks for your efforts to date,

Vic

Just getting my response recorded in this thread too.

I'm in, probably with 1 other person too.

Weekday or weekend is no issue for us.

One suggestion, everyone attending wear a name tag of some sort with name and forum username for us forgetful ones.biggrin

See you there, thanks Dunmowin.

Cheers Neil

I can't do the weekend of the 23rd-25th August but other than that there's a fine chance I'll be there to meet some folks.

Hi all, we have just done a round trip to Rockingham, from Kwinana right through to Safety Bay.  Think the best location so far for a picnic lunch is at the Naval Memorial Park on Rockingham Beach Road.  There are several covered picnic tables, close to clean bbqs and toilets.  For those in need of a caravan park, there is one right across the road.  Both the park, beach and caravan park are pet friendly, and there is plenty of parking.

I also looked at Wells Park, as BentAxleBob suggested. Facilities there are the same, in fact the car park is bigger (more suitable for any caravans), but I preferred the Naval Memorial Park.

Does anyone have any other suggestions.

Next issue it to try to set a date.  Given that all these parks along the foreshore must get busy on weekends, we could try for a week day, I am not sure how many of you are working, so I will post a poll to see what sort of numbers we have

Not a problem Tess,  There are quite a few GN forumites that live in the area.  You are welcome to try for another get together

I think I stuffed up on the poll, but what the heck, I am retired from all sorts of office things now, and if that is worst I can do - well what can I say.

I have decided to bite the bullet and have chosen Thursday, 29th August for our get together in Rockingham. I hope this date will suit most.

Where:  Naval Memorial Park on Rockingham Beach Road, northern end carpark at the roundabout at Govenor Road opposite Cee & Sea Caravan Park (08) 9527 1297 - pet friendly

When: Thursday 29th August, from 11.30 am

Bring:  Your lunch and drinks, your own chairs, and a sense of fun  (Clean BBQs are available if you wish to use them)

The park is dog friendly, the beach appears to be off leash area if you need to bring along your four legged companion.

See as many of you there as can make it.....

Sounds good Dunmowin!  May I suggest that if the weather is foul (pouring) that everyone meet there at that time anyway and perhaps an alternative could be found (eg; Dome Coffee House?) or somewhere else under cover?????  Suggesting this in case Murphy arrives with the rain and we wouldn't want him putting members off from attending.....any thoughts ? confuse

I have not invited Murphy, nor is the China man who followed you up the Kwinana Highway.
