C PAP Machine.

I have just started using a C PAP (assisted breathing) machine during the night and  WOW what a difference it makes to how I feel during the day.

I usually awake early (5.30-6.00am) and before I was wanting a morning nap by about 10.00am and another in the arvo.....BUT now I have plenty of energy all day long.

I used to wake up during the night every hour and have a tinkle ...every bloody hour.!!!  BUT now I sleep for at least 5 to 6 hours before I wake then I think arhhh  stuff it and roll over and go back to sleep for another couple of hours.  It's GREAT.........

I wish that I had got checked out years ago, but like a lot of us blokes, we just think we are bullet proof.

The Doc. that tested me said that he had not seen anyone as bad as me.......I stopped breathing over 940 times during the night and each period was between 25 and 45seconds, my body and brain was being starved of oxygen......(so that's my excuse)

On one of the readouts of the report there was a number of  "9"........It was the worst/ highest reading,  normal was between 1 and 5........I have been using the machine for 10 days and have an average of 1.7 per day, which is great.  I'm feeling good and dangerous, so look out girls I might give John (Yeoeleven) a run for his money....ha ha ha biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Those machines look so daunting, I cant imagine putting the mask on my face and then actually going to sleep, it looks like it would keep me awake all night. Congratulations sarg, glad it works so well for you.

G'day my lovely wife uses one of these machines. the difference with her now is unbelievable. she sleeps well, has stopped snoring, breathes well all night and is fully functional all day. She does not have a full mask but a set of nose type plugs held in place by a strap. as a by product of her improvement I also sleep better a I no longer worry about her stop of breathing then her loud sigh as she starts breathing again
Cheers Jack

I have been using one 'for 13 years and can't sleep without it. I have just got a 12V plug for it and had the MH built with 2 extra 12V sockets beside the bed. I used a full mask for years and now just use the nose plugs which are great.

I was like you Sarg when I was tested, they said it was severe, and could have been fatal.

Gerty, you get used to them and the sleep quality is soooooo much better.

Cheers

Brett

I have used a CPAP machine for the last few years, since I got the machine I've not missed a single night of using it. It has given me back my life, so much so I am about to start some travelling :) I have just asked a question in the 'Techies corner' forum about powering my CPAP machine and if you can help answer my question I'd be very happy - might even di a little dance.

Thanks
Bob

Yes I use the Nose Plug Type and the machine is so quiet that I cannot even hear it. I would recommend to anyone.

My hubby uses the full mask and yes, I sleep better when he has it on. The machine is very quiet and only annoys when the mask seal moves and leaks air (usually when he's rolled over). He reckons he never felt tired the next day before he got his mask but knowing how many times he stopped breathing, the mask has to be better for him - if he would leave it on all night!!! He was told he needed it especially as he'd already had a heart attack. Constant stopping breathing is hard on the heart.

Pleased to hear about c pap machines. I may (will) have to have one soon. Other medical issues are coming first but I doubt it will be long before I am using one. I get how the mask works but don't know about the nose one. Is there much difference in the amount of oxygen used??

I doubt it. It will be programmed to give you the right pressure for you.

You are right NeilnRuth, The machine is programed for each individual to the correct pressure or airflow. The nose mask fits snuggly into the nostril with soft round plugs, and the mouth stays shut as you breath. I think it is much better than the full mouth mask.
