Depends what you want and like, also where you are from. I stayed at the Sunset Caravan Park at Karumba Point and it is definitely in the prime spot, you generally have to like fishing but for only 2 or 3 days stay it wouldn't matter. The sunset hotel at the point is a must visitit with the sunsets over the water spectacular and the Barra fillets at 'Ashes' is sensational.
On the negative side the caravan park is overrun by Victorians who migrate here every year and have formed their own cliques, if you are a Victorian you will fit in nicely, if not, jump in and introduce yourself and they will welcome you as the 'Vic's' do welcome outsiders even if grudgingly...there really not that bad. (lol)
Apart from that, the place is a great spot!!!

We are almost at Cairns and then heading across to Karumba and Normanton. Thought we may stay 2-3 nights at Karumba. We will actually have our 40th wedding anniversary there! Can anyone out there who has spent time around the area give me any suggestions of the best park to book. We will be there in about three weeks so thought I better book it as there seems to be so many people on the go up this area. Also any suggestions of anything special to do in the area. Would a fishing charter be a good idea. Thanks for any help.
Have a think about staying at Normanton and maybe going on a day or overnight trip on the Gulflander train, would be a good "special" thing to do. Check the times though and make sure you book.
We were there during June, and someone we spoke to who went on a fishing charter at Karumba said they didn't get anything as the water was too cold for the barra etc. There is a free camp (see Camps 7) on the Normanton River, permits from the Normanton Info Centre....
