Eyre Peninsula Caravan Parks

We are thinking about exploring the Eyre Peninsula South Australia around September October. Our camper trailer is not set up for independent camping so we need to stay where there are showers and power to run our Engel.

Does anyone know which caravan parks are good and whether we would need to prebook them ?

Also what are the don't miss attractions.

Thanks in advance.

Howdy Pam, As an ex resident of Arno Bay (way back in 1970 & 71, moving to Cleve until end of 1980) and having stayed in the van a few times I can say that it is a great spot and should cater for casual arrivals. Not sure re Port Lincoln and need for booking, but what used to named Curtin Point Van Park is a ripper, Venus Bay is also a ripper, Elliston too should be easy to access and if possible extend to Fowlers Bay where the van Park and staff is so friendly. I reckon that even though it is around the SA School Holidays you should be quite safe to snaffle a site casually.

Pam hi A couple of years back My wife and I did 3 weeks on the Eyre Penninsula, although we live in Brisbane our tour really started from the Central Coast of NWS after some family things heading over the Blue Mountains via Katoomba with our first overnight stop at a friendly low cost Rankins Springs C/P. Next it was to Burra C/P once again friendly and plan to go back to spend more time there.

Now this where the real trip started at Cowell in March it was OK could of been the time of the year but it was getting late in the day and we needed to find somewhere to stay. Next down to Tumby Bay (we both like to find places that are in songs "eating oysters off the rocks at Tumby Bay") A very nice area with equally nice C/P. Try the fish and chips. We only stayed one night as we needed to be at Port Lincoln for a country music festival and there we stayed at the race course.

Streaky Bay was our next plan and it was the busiest but they had about 20 empty sites once again tidy friendly park, it would be the only one I would consider checking for availability.

The repose from the C/P and tourist Infor places was come school holiday time the coastal strip expands greatly.

There is other parks we noticed on our drive Haslam for one very low cost but usable. Arno Bay, Elliston was others that we looked at but the day was still young we were exploring and finished at Streaky Bay where we parked for few days doing day trips out of, Good spot.

On the way home we stayed over near Iron Knob at a Pandurra Farm Stay on the highway, Broken Hill and from there it was staying with friends and family until we got home.

We did this trip with our Subaru Outback towing a Cub Outback Camper trailer where possible plugged into power at C/Ps for the the frig and the use of the showers, it was great trip and took a mental note of the low cost places where I would like to return to at a later date when we do and have now done buy our caravan.

Hope this helps it's great area to visit with lots of natural attractions. Ralph

ps. Tumby Bay C/P and a beach a short drive down the road from there.

We stayed at the southern caravan park at Port Lincoln, 23.50 unpowered seniors, power was only 5-6$ more on level site, very clean, lots of walks, jetty for fishing etc. also stayed at Venus bay, great spot, good fishing, clean and Was I think 27$.

recommend both.

Streaky Bay caravan park is excellent. We didn't book but it never hurts to give a call ahead of you know when you'll be arriving.

Thanks everyone.
Still have a while to keep researching.

Can recommend Streaky Bay CP - but might be wise to pre-book that one if it is school holidays. Scenic area. Pleasant town.

We love Coffin Bay CP. Pleasant village. Oyster sales.

Port Lincoln CP also recommended - BUT inspect any site they offer you before paying. Some sites are too narrow to put out awning and others are very uneven. If you can get a good site, there are great views. Very nice town.

That's good to know Wendy. We have a tent style camper trailer and with a soft floor level ground is very important.

There are 2 parks at Cowell, and the one on the northern side is like a bush camp with good showers and power.
There's Arno, Tumby Bay, and Whyalla, of course. North of Lincoln is North Shields, and I believe this park has been rebuilt since the first EP bushfires.
Coffin Bay has a nice park, and is always busy.
There are parks up the centre of the EP, and not too far apart. There's more to the EP than the coast and national parks, although they are very rewarding.
Take a punt and just have a good time.l
