Well I have searched the forum googled Google until it gave up and can't find the answer. I just finished repairing my spare Mobitronic MPS 50A and just need to know what type of fuse on the 240V side. The board has it printed as 15A 250V but it doesn't state if its a fast or slow blow fuse. Can anyone here assist?
I'd just try it with a fast blow first. If it blows violently then there is still a problem with the device. If it only just ruptures then maybe the inrush current may be what has blown it, so then try a slow blow fuse. If it still blows, then again the unit is still faulty.
Thanks 03 troopy but the unit is fine now that I fixed it. I used a dummy fuse ( a piece of brass bar and it is ok but I would prefer the proper fuse in case I have a problem in the future
Cheers
Pete
Using the brass bar as a replacement fuse is a sign of a very confident repairman.. lol. My advice as how to determine whether to use a fast or slow blow fuse still stands. The alternative is to see what is written on the old fuse and replace it with a similar fuse. The slow blow fuse will most likely have a T after the rating (eg. 240V 15A T). But you would have done this I guess, if you still had the old fuse.
All Switch Mode Power Suplies use slow blow fuses. The waeco 240v ac to 25V dc 100watt powersupply uses a 3.15A fuse. The mobitronic is suposed to be 160 Watt supply. I would try a 4A sloblo & see how it goes. SMPS use slow blow as there is usualy fairly high in rush current on switch on.
Many thanks fellas for the help. Its up and running again. Yes I was confident I had made the repairs ( well at least I think I was) and to find out if it worked the was all I had handy I had drilled it out for a model motor I am building so it was thin lol. I also found the fuse was 1.5 amp not 15A as I thought it was, so the dot when I cleaned off the dust so DeBe was right
and it had a "T"?
lol, I usually err on the safe side and instead of using a brass bar, I just wrap a pice of the tinfoil from a ciggy packet around the blown 3AG. T.I.C.
yep had a T. I used to do that too but I gave them away 20years ago. been caught without a way to light a van stove or campfire at times....a downside of giving up lol
