Hi, has anyone encountered ants is carnarvon or other parts of WA. What do you use to keep them at bay?

If you use the search function (click search on the blue bar near the top) you will see a number of threads on ants, here is one;

I usually try not to park under trees, especially Peppermint trees, as they tend to drop onto the van in winds or climb/drop onto the van from weeping branches over the van.....

 Zachery,

             Get some outdoor surface spray for when in ant territory then simply spray the van stabilizers and the jockey wheel plus some of the power cord as it goes up to the van and the sullage hose etc.

Another little trick is to loop the sullage hose over itself  thus creating a type of trap so that crawlies cannot get up the hose unless wearing scuba gear.

In real bad areas I also spray behind each wheel as well. We also carry some ant rid just in case.

We have used in times of desperation re ants ..Using four empty fruit/ jam/ tins filled with water and just sit the drop down legs into the tins. The ants drop into the water and drowned. We also have used baby powder sprinkled all around and under the van plus around where the 4x4 is parked as we had ants all over it once... Also another get out of jail kind of situations if you have nothing much an hand re the ants some flour sprinkled around will help stop the little free loaders hitching a ride with you. Once they make a cosy home some place inside your van it really is a major job to really eradicate  them as they start to build nests and then start breading. New a bloke who had to pull off half the cladding off his van to get to the nest to remove the ants.

If there in your van leave a liquid of ant-rid on a piece of foil along there trail it kills them off in days as they take it back to there nest

 That's what I use if they get into the van barrie, also good to leave some inside the van if storing so you "home" ants don't invade.

I knew someone with a Toyota Coaster that they had made nests in behind the inside metal cladding, that was the only method that got rid of them.......

Ant sand works. Put some near the ant nest or along their tracks outside the van/m'home. Its toxic to pets though.

I had success with caster sugar mixed with Borax.  Just leave a heap of the stuff in a dish made from alfoil or in jar lids. Takes a bit of time but got rid of some that had a nest somewhere in the van.
