Pulley system to lift bed bases

I have a Coromal Magnum transformer. It has 2 drop down beds at each end. Before I ordered the van I had a go at lifting the base and could do it.

Now travelling with Mum and with 2 beds, lifting them is hard yakka!

I am installing a pulley system (and letting Coromal know!). I have the pulleys and the rope (from an understanding chandlery)

and will post photo's when I get it sorted.

Any extra advice is much appreciated(that's why I need the drill!) Thanks JulieM

Julie,
I am not a Coromal owner and know very little about their construction. but i do know that with some van manufacturers that even putting an swing out/adjustable arm on a wall for a TV, the van needs additional internal wall support. So I would be very wary of where you install the pulley system to lift the beds, talk to a coromal dealer/caravan repairer prior to doing any work and get them to inspect your van.

Agree with Jim gas Strut upgrade could be the way to go.

Why don't you just upgrade the gas struts on the beds?

I did this with our double bed when we went from a rubber to innerspring mattress.

It made the bed easier to lift when this was done.

Patroist, these beds have to be pulled up from inside the van. Not a gas strut to be seen. The bed pulls up then clips via a strap. Then you go outside to

close the front and rear lids or doors (they are the roof of the beds) and lock them down. It's the pulling up that's hard for me.

This is the bed, gas struts to lid but not the base

Hi Julie.

My advice was for beds inside the van that you had to raise to get access for storage.

I did not realize that your Coramal had push out beds.

Hi Julie, I think I understand your dilema, from memory it is quite a stretch to the grab handle to pull the bed base up, then it needs quite a tug to make it move. I suspect a large part of your problem is the stretch, and the angle that you need to pull them up at.

It MAY be possible to make the job easier (reduce the stretch) by lenthening the pull handle, just a loog of something tied through it would be worth a try before you start modfying your van.

Thanks Plendo, I am pleased you understand. There is a long strap, I just don't have the oomph to pull it up to the point of balance. Currently I push them up from the

outside, jam a broom under it and do the rest inside. Cheers Julie M
