I would just like to say that on my recent trip to the Cape, as everyone would know most parts up that way are under some kind of Title whether it be Native or National Parks or Fisheries or what ever, even mining to an extent in a few places.
So there is permits and camp fees to pay, every which way you turn they all want a piece of the $$$.No problem in that,i guess as everyone else want's the same thing. But to try and get some of these permits from the qld -N/parks is another thing,as they advertise you must do it all on line ,but every time we tried the web page would come up with some announcement they were up dating the book in service or if you went and tried to ring you got this recorded message with all the gaggle on how to do it on line...So when we got to Chilli Beach I asked others how they payed and they said they couldn't ..So in the arvo this ranger bloke turned up and we all attempted to try to pay him..Oh no he was no longer allowed to take any money,so he said just stay put and camp then.So how the heck is a Dept supposed to inforce these rules and regulations if they cannot even have their paying system up and running properly. ...
Also when we were at Chilli Beach 4.500 thongs had been washed up onto the beachand these people from some eco group were there doing the clean up not one park ranger was there to help in the clean up. And from all the thongs that was washed up they said they had not found a matching pair. They said they had been washed onto our shores from the Philippines.
The boys have some pics so when I get them from them I will have to post it on here to show you.
So does the online booking system actually work nowadays??? We tried it a couple of years ago and the web-site simply didn't work. So when we got to the NP's, we self-registered at the little box like usual. Thats the best way, gives you a chance to see whether its worth staying there, as you said JC.

No the booking system is a nightmare, I think it is done on purpose to keep us all out of OUR national parks.
Only a handful of sites now do self registration, if any at all. All booking is done online or over the phone and they both use the same system, so stay free when it's not working. If there is space of course or sometimes other may have booked in advance and paid.
The lady on the phone told me last year that I could pay after camping but that is impossible as you can only book ahead and not in the past.
No wonder the qld govt and it's IT is in audit trouble. Much like the government in general I suppose.
