After being up the Cape for over two weeks ,as we started to travel back down we were freezing.( even in our sleeping bags at night ) so we pulled out our thermal long johns and long sleave singlet and we slept in them and was not cold again.
So anyone who has not got heating for one reason or another maybe give this a try.
It wasn't a pretty site but who cares as long as you are warm.
I've never worn the long johns, but I've used the long sleeve thermals a fair bit. I would think they'd be a lot less bulky than the old flanny PJ,s and probably warmer. They wouldn't be as cheap, but if you weigh up the pros and cons, it may be worth it.
They worked a treat for us, and because they are light weight they only take a little while to day if you need to wash them, not like the fleecy PJs they take all day to dry. And another thing they don't get tangled up while in bed .We were in sleeping bags inside our swags and until we got the thermal's out we really were cold. But after the thermals went on slept like babies.
That's it! You've convinced me! Next time I need to renew my winter nightwear, it'll be for thermal underwear!
You won't regret it, K mart is where I got mine from and the boys got theirs from one of those up market ski & surf shops and payed triple of what I payed for mine, but theirs turned out to be no better than mine.
So there you go not always what you pay for is what you get.
I found nice thermals at our local Harris Scarfe store - at half price. Had them ready for going away in winter but we didn't get to go. Still there for next time though. Great wear.
I bought my thermal underwear from Target today. Made from AUST Merino wool.
I bought longjohns in grey marle and a long sleeve round neck top in dark blue and grey marle stripes. I paid $20 each for them which was half price.
Fantastic Buy.

You will be as snug as a bug now. When it was really cold one morning I left mine on under my jeans.
I swear by them! A must for cold weather fishing and why let them go to waste when I'm not fishing.? Being warm is the key to happy travels. Just ask Jules (partner)!

Hi Beth, still laughing at your post regarding every one holding hands dancing around with our thermals on...I recon if the do gooders seen us doing this we all would get carted off to the funny farm...They would think we all had joined some religious sect...
I am parked up outside the Murrabit, Vic. market. Curled up in bed wearing my thermal underwear and my possum fur socks with P.Js over top.
The weather has turned bad with rain and wind. Feel sorry for the stallholders
trying to set up .
I think I will be warm enough. If not I still have a possum fur cardigan I can add.
I got given a set when I used to work for the ambulance, they are great. Although don't do as I did and try and dry them in a dryer - they kinda shrink... a lot.
