If anyone decided to head up into the Cape a good idea is to stop in at the quarantine station about 20ks north of Coen on the way up ,as it has a wealth of information regarding the can do's and can't do's while visiting the Top End. The guy has been doing this same job for over 26 years ,so he is only too happy to give you any advice you may require. They hand out show bags with a lot of info to help your trip more enjoyable as well.
You can even go into the station you use the internet for free to check your emails.(like to see that service in all quarantine stations )
This is not a compulsory stop on the way up but on the way back it is ,they are looking for a number of off limit items.it can change from time to time but mostly it is fruit and vegs. The Biosecurity QLD runs the service .Also QLD fisheries can be at this quarantine station at random times ,this is another area you must be up to date with on catch numbers and species in possession.A mistake here could cost you all your gear and a very hefty fine and maybe even a stint behind bars. They also are very active pulling over vehicles along the roads as they are mobile. The community radio is worth listening to also as they have all the good oil on the Cape.
