Farewell Old Friend

Hi Gary and Roxy sorry to hear of the loss of you beloved Lucy. It is a hard decision to make but I know what it is like, had to make the same decision this time last year and it took me along time to get over it.

Remember the good times you had together and all the love that she give you and know that you have done the right thing as you could not see her suffer. She has now gone to a better place. look up in the sky and see the brightest star and it will be Her. Lucy will always be in your heart

all the best
Suzanne

I feel your pain. They are not dogs they are family.
My heart breaks when we have to say goodbye to any of our beloved fur kids.
I don't think we will get another when our Jacky boy finally goes.

Our boy is a black version of yours pondy

After 16 years as a faithful friend, protector and travelling companion, the wife Roxy and I had to say good bye to our little dog Lucy on Thursday cry Our little mate had finally succumbed to old age, blind and deaf, that was OK but then to battle cancer and what the vet said in the end was dementia. We had to make the hardest decision ever and let our little friend go in peace. Boy oh boy the hardest thing we have ever had to do cry After having dogs for near on 50 years we have decided no more, as it is to hard to let them go they become part of you and you a part of them. I have attached a photo of her she was a mixed breed of dog some would say a mongrel but she was faithful. I could not believe we had her so long as in the picture is our two girls both whom don't live with any more the eldest married and about to have Grandchild number two biggrin so to all of you dog lover's out there give your little friend a hug and pat from both Roxy and I

Cheers Garry

Thanks Guys for your thoughts. I did not know if to post but in the end our loss was hard, and it was a fitting farewell in words.

So sorry to hear of your very sad loss...No one knows what it is like until you have to make that decision.

My wife and I had to make the very same decision you and your wife had to make ,some five years ago and still get a pang in our hearts if we come across a photo or places we went with our boy.

Many a time we have thought about getting another dog but we know we could never replace our boy ,so we just love every bodies else's  dog we meet on our travels.

I didn't have the guts to have my first dog put down, so she suffered until the end. In her final weeks I slept outside and carried her to the yard so she could do her business. She's now buried in one corner. After that experience I didn't want another dog, but the decision was out of my hands, so I'll eventually go through it all again. However, this time I'll do the humane thing.

Geez Mate I know exactly how you feel. 4 weeks ago we drove back from Darwin to the Gold Coast to put one of our Border Collies down. They are more faithful & loving than 60% of humans ,infact, more so. Your loss is shared by us all mate.Tears in my eyes

Morning Garry, I can understand exactly what you went through, its a difficult decision to make.

We went through the same thing with a much loved dog about 3 years ago, still tear up when I think about Jess and our 16 years together.

I know I'm a bit late picking up this thread Garry, but Jen and I feel your pain. We fall to pieces when we lose a faithfull companion and as we all know these little beasts are part of us. We would never be without our furry kids and we don't ever travel without them.. Doesn't matter if we are restricted on where we are permitted to enter, we just live with that.
