Gday...

I stumbled across this tidbit of useless information I just thought I would share...

Back in 1885 Dr William Gordon Stables was apparently the first person to indulge in the pastime of caravanning. He called himself the Gentleman Gypsy.

He stripped his household down to the bare essentials for life on the road: one coachman, a dog named Hurricane, Polly the c o c k atoo - and Foley, his valet.

Foley's main task was to ride ahead of the caravan, on a tricycle, to make sure the road was clear and to look out for interesting stopping places.

I thought it a little amusing that, since 1885 we have not changed our travelling style that very much. We GNs sell/down size our homes, become a 'coachman' to drive our rig and many surround themselves with pets for the journey.

I guess "Foley" these days is the Navman and Camps6 or 7 ... checking the road ahead and locating 'interesting stopping places'.

AHHHH ..... time moves on but does it move at all ??  hmm

I think the name "Gentleman Gypsy" would suit Gary well, albeit tongue in cheek.

I wonder if this bloke may be a descendent of the "Gentleman Gypsy" confuse  See pic's;

Fantastic pics Vic,and best of all no fuel costs involved. Now that would upset the oil companies.

Don't think the caravan parks would like us turning up in that great set up either,so a no win all around .

I can't remember where I got the photo's from, copied them from somewhere else I think, also I think they were taken in Oz on a country road.    Pretty modern with a TV antenna and car seat in the front, LOL !
