Wow! Somebody got out the wrong side of the tent and stood in dog poop!!

please note not all pet owners are like this there are a lot of people who clean up after there animals we have a 14yr old jack russell and we do clear up after him and iam sure you have seen more responisble pet owners on the road than non responsible ones cherylle
WOOF WOOF when I Take my so called dog lover for a walk he always brings a black plastic bag to pick up his messes and I never let him **** his leg on any children s playground or other peoples property. I've got him well trained.
I love my dog, but I dislike most dog owners, for the very reasons that judith describes. But what annoys me most of all is incessant barking. Believe me, it drives me absolutely stark raving mad. Several years ago I had a sh*tbag neighbour whose two medium sized dogs barked nonstop for several hours per day, several days per week, for two years. Imagine the kind of damage that does to you.
I've also lost count of the number of times my dog and I have been accosted by strays. Look around your neighbourhood, count the number of houses that have dogs, and then count the number of people you see taking their dogs for a walk. I take my dog for a 3km run, on-leash, several times per week. My other inconsiderate neighbour has 12 annoying rodents that yap all day. I've never seen him or his wife take any of them outside the yard.
BTW, my own dog barks maybe twice per day, for about 5 seconds at most, and I always go to see what she is barking about.

It's all in the training. If you have a dog you are responsible for your dogs behavior. We have a Jack Russell. We take him for 2 or 3 walks per day. He had traveled with us since he was 6weeks old. He doesn't bark unless someone or another animal comes around at night. People are the problem not the dog. I would be mortified if our dog made a mess in our annex let alone someone elses. Dog owners need to take responsibility for their pets. We pick up after our dog
Judith, I think you can't put all dog owners in the one kennel, we are nice people too.
Cheers

It sounds like you are putting all dog owners in the one category which doesn't seem fair. There are responsible dog owners travelling this country who do the right thing. I have some advice for you, perhaps you should stay home and you won't have a problem.
i have talked to a lot of fellow travellers about this very subject and they all agree a dogs place is at home where it can do what dogs love to do,,,run and play,,if they are on your property they can do what you owners allow them to do and others don't have to witness or visit.......this is a true story,my husband and i where sitting under our awning enjoying a beer when this couple come bounding down the hill with their unleashed dog for a chat, the dog immediately came under our awning and dropped a big S**T right in front of us.. i went crook and the woman just said "its okay love i will pick it up" sorry not the point,,...isn't it ironic that we as humans have to use a toilet and dogs can just drop anywhere, doesn't seem right does it,,imagine if i dropped my shorts on the grass in a free camp, rest area, or servo you dog people with blinkers on would have me arrested,,,and not because i have a fat ass
I understand how you feel about the neighbourhood barkers Dorian. At times when windows are open in summer it feels like they are yapping inside the house. When we are away in the caravan we look forward to some peace.
I should say that I'm not a dog owner by choice. In fact never had a dog as a child. I was always afraid of dogs after a cyclist was attacked outside our house. I believe the same dog was also responsible for mauling our pet rabbits to death.
I "inherited" my sister's dog when she passed away, and I looked after her dog until she died a few years ago. Both losses were devastating for me. In fact I didn't want to go through it again with another dog. But now I'm looking after my father's dog, and I'll take her with me on my travels if things work out that way. I guarantee that my canine travellling companion will be seen and not heard, and her mess will be cleaned up immediately, diarrhoea notwithstanding.

I am a dog owner and it is obvious that Judith has an intense dislike of dogs. I have been on the road for nearly five months this trip staying mainly in free camps all over SA and WA. Not once have I had a problem with barking dogs nor had to contend with dog poo. All dog owners I have met on my travels have been very conscious of doing the right thing and picked up after their pet. On the other hand, at nearly every free stop the filthy habits of some individuals are obvious with toilet paper strewn around everywhere and rubbish tossed into the bush.
Just last week a van load of backpackers pulled up a couple of meters away from me and one of the females immediately jumped out and defecated in the bush in full view just out side my window even though there was a brand new toilet 100 metres away.
I was so angry I wanted to have more than a word with her, but there were 6 of them and 1 of me. Unfortunately there was no one else around at the time so common sense prevailed and I didn't confront them.
valnrob you sound like nice people and you sound like you take good care of your dog and genuinely love it, i probably would to, however, you are one of a very few,,
To Judith. I think it very silly of you to voice your opinions on the animal lovers site. I have been equally annoyed at inconsiderate travellers who believe their way is the only right way to go. Freedom of the road is just that. Granted not everybody does the right thing. I'm sure you have annoyed somebody on your travels to. Tolerance for all to make this journey (life), what's left of it the most enjoyable that it can be. And your "Kingswood Country" statement about leaving the "mutts" at home could be said about many different aspects of everybodies treasures inclusive of whinging, whining people!!!!!!!!!! Have a nice day or is the sun annoying you as well?
We take our dog away with us. Take him for lots of walks.
Have an anti bark collar for him. He is flead, wormed.brushed, desexed and loved.
Goes without saying he is cleaned up after and never allowed to lift his leg anywhere near a childrens playground.
A reponsible do owner will do all these things and more.
As a matter of fact , our dog is alot cleaner than alot of people..
Please don't take it out on the dogs Judith,
when it is the irresponsible dog owners where the buck stops.
i dont think anyone makes ucamp there judy plenty more campin spots around so all i can say is "GO TOO BUNNINGS BYE SOME TIMBER build a bridge and get OVER IT " or maybe u should stay home
I have pulled into a few roadside stops & moved on because of the human filth left behind. Even a couple of toilet cartridges emptied onto the ground. Not all outback stops either, one between Brisbane & Toowoomba. Your pants dropping scenario does happen.
After I had set up camp in a dog friendly c/p in northern NSW, the owner came over to me, I thought what have I done wrong. He came to warn me that a c/p 6 klm away got knocked off the previous night. Every annex was emptied of everything not locked up. He said it doesn't happen in dog friendly parks. My dog goes camping with me & I haven't met anyone with your attitude towards dogs or dog owners. Maybe you should put up a sign outside your van telling dog owners to keep away.
Its the old "Tar everybody with the same brush" trick. Not all dog-owners are irresponsible and allow their dogs to poo and pee and bark wherever. Neither do all young overseas campervan travellers behave like pigs . Not all "Grey Nomads" are dog owners, nor do they all hate dogs.
I hope you are having a better day today Judith, and dogs and their owners don't upset you every day. We don't have a dog, sadly, but we are rarely bothered by other peoples dogs when we are travelling.
We have a very well behaved dog, who travelled with us for 6 months, sat in on happy hour and sang (by invitation of the performer), got know as "The Singing Dog" around the out back loved by everyone that met him!
Also saved a few diabetics, from having "Hypos", as he has the ability to detect diabetics when their sugar is out of whack!
He is a Schnoodle, and they are bred to do just that!
So yes we love dogs, and would not travel without him, he is not a dog but a family member.
Also saved a few diabetics, from having "Hypos", as he has the ability to detect diabetics when their sugar is out of whack!
FYI, our local pharmacy was selling Accu-Check diabetes testers for $1 (after rebate). Recently I saw them for $5 outright. You can get the testing strips through the PBS for $5. That's where they make their money.
On a sidenote, my cousin had a devoted Alsatian (who had been lame from birth). When my cousin died, his wife visited his grave and just happened to have their dog in the car. The dog got out and began looking around. My cousin's widow called out "Where's Ivan?" and the dog immediately located his grave, plonked herself down, and wouldn't budge from the spot. The dog had never been to the cemetery prior to that day (or since), and she found the grave without any prompting.

I would rather put up with a barking dog than all the moaners out there . What about all the rubbish left behind on the free camps saw heaps when travelling from the top end. Nomads nead to vlean up after themselves. No I do not have a dog will get one for my trips rather listen to there yap than some people.
I have been caravanning for many years, most of them with our faithfull old friend whom we lost last year. Thank god that during that time we never had the bad luck to be parked within a mile of you....Many single people have a dog which provides them with companionship twenty four hours a day and that's lovely. please don't judge everyone by the actions of a few, maybe you need to caravan/camp away from other people.
