Having a re-read of forum rules.....

As I have a forgetful memory, I was having a re-read of forum rules to remind me of what they are.

One paragraph states about choosing the most appropriate section to post in (or words to that effect) and I have noticed of late that a lot of posts/threads seem to be all over the place instead of where they probably should have been.  I am not pointing the finger in any direction, I am just as guilty of not paying enough attention to this myself in fact after posting I have sometimes thought "oh cripes" I should have put that in so and so. hmm

I do think though that like me we should all re-read the rules occasionally to keep ourselves on track, see;

Agree with you on that, I noticed a lot of topics in the general that I think should have been in Techie's.

I also agree, sometimes we all need a reminder ? myself included ! and Dougwe of course biggrinbiggrin

If Julia was still around ?? she would say, it's Tony's fault ?? BUT she is not around any more, and I am and reckons it's all ''wombats fault ''  biggrinbiggrin

Oh Oh !! Ithink I have posted this in the wrong area also ??crycry wink biggrinbiggrin

Good reminder about the rules Duh.

In most forums the rules are at the top of the page, there are some people that do not scroll all the way to the bottom hmm

I think there should be a section for dazren and Dougwe only.

I refer to dazren's post below "wombat is not guilty"biggrinbiggrin

 Their was this quote attributed to Douglas Bader, the legless WW2 British Air Ace;

"Rules are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men. "

I have also heard it expressed as "Orders are for the guidance of wise men and the blind obedience of fools"

Having said that if some sort of order is not followed with thread sections we end up with a "pack a poo ticket" forum which makes it difficult to know where to look for the info we want.....see;

The problem I believe is that most people read the general forum on a daily basis but read the other forums only occasionally or not at all. This means that when posting a new thread if you are after feedback or information you would want to go for the largest audience which is the general forum. Even I am guilty of that and only check the other forums occasionally.

If I want to post something I try and figure out where it should go...sometimes you will get a post that doesn't seem to belong anywhere, so I might put that in the general section. But like HJ said, the general section is the one I read the most, I just forget to go into the other ones, unless I want some specific information, then I'll look there first to see if it's there, if not I'll post.

If you don't read all the forums, you can miss out on a lot of really interesting stuff - the solos forum is one that has some great stuff - people with blogs, doing interesting stuff. The budget/free campsite forum is invaluable - use the "search" button - put in say Tasmania, and you will get heaps of info.

The forum rules are pretty good and easy to understand and follow, and the aim of the whole site is to foster friendliness among fellow travellers.

Having a re-think maybe I digress would be better directly under General, then solo, but either way would be good.

Yep, Cindy is the webbie/owner, but I think she would appreciate the feedback however much we members differ on our thoughts, but we all understand it is entirely up to her consideration and decision on these matters.

I follow my own "rules" for this Forum.  Start at the bottom of the Index Page, and work up to the General Forum.  Go back 3 pages, to check any new Posts, and work through to the first page.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Like a lot of others My approach is based on available time I daily check the general forum and most days I digress and other sections when I have more time so I guess I am also more prone to using the General Forum and you can be sure more people will see your post and thus you get more information to help solve your issue. winkwinkwink

I have to agree as well, the solos should be higher up just under general. I think they only dropped down recently when something else was added.

I think the Solos section used to be below the General, we had some additions in between.

My vote would be firstly a the rules fixed at the top.

Then General, then Solo, then I digress, then show us your rig, then tech, health and the rest following on from that....

I find that putting everything in General is too messy, you end up with similar posts in all sections, so would miss some if you didn't bother to check the others.  It doesn't take long to have a quick look in each section for any new posts.

Some forums have a "new posts" link, where you can click on that and all new posts irrespective of what section are shown, that would be even better.

I [ almost\ agree there Duh ?? Except I would go Rules, General, I Digress, then solo, etc,etc, ?? as if the I digress was right under General, I may get used more often ??

Duh you need to check the rules more closely ??? As it clearly states, In Volume 2, Chapter 17, Page 5. Article 3/7,  ---- ''ie''

Under NO Circumstances, AT ALL !! is any member of this forum allowed to be NICE to Wombat for any reasons whatsoever // And if any member breaks this rule he will be warned ONCE ONLY, and any second offence he/she/ will be shipped off to W/ Aust to spent a minimum of 7 Days in a cramped wombat hole ?? with the said wombat !!      hmmhmm  winkwink  biggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin
