I found the mobile but think my glasses are history Gerty, I was trying to load my car with goodies from Bunnings (doing a lot of bending etc) and think I lost them their, but not handed in, checked again with Bunnings today.   I had them there and went straight home and then discovered they were missing.  Been two weeks now, but no sign...will have to be more careful Doug, notes wouldn't have helped in this case, good thought though. Nah, can't blame the barber John, just plain carelessness and not taking enough care.   cry

Thanks for the links Dorian, they were interesting and appreciated, as are your posts, you are very knowledgeable.  Do you currently have an RV or are you in the process of getting another?  confuse

I "lost" my mobile phone which has been missing for a couple of days, searched high and low, car etc, etc to no avail.

I had tried ringing it, but as it was turned off, no sound in the house to locate it if it was there, did leave a verbal message on the phone asking the finder to ring my home number.  No result.

As a last resort, decided to google lost mobile phone.  Reading some of the Wiki tips, one was to check under your bed in case it had fallen out of your clothing.   BINGO !!  There it was under the bed, where I had sat to put my shoes on, must have had the mobile in the shallow pocket of a jacket I had on and it fell out, somehow getting kicked under the bed!  What a relief, I had checked the bedding a couple of times but didn't think of looking under the bed.  Here is the link that saved the day for me, and also another link on how to block your phone if with Telstra etc;

http://www.wikihow.com/Find-a-Lost-Cell-Phone

http://www.telstra.com.au/abouttelstra/advice/mobile/missing/

PS: Other providers also have links on finding lost phones.

Yeh Doug, I reckon Wombat must have hidden it there, same as the stuff under Gary's bed, he's full of tricks like that, covers up his entry holes pretty good though, but we know don't we ! wink biggrin

Thanks Jules, I have stuck my home phone number on it now with dymo tape, so if I do lose it and someone honest finds it I might get a phone call.   Of course, would not give my surname or address if they did, would either meet up with them somewhere or give our PO Box number to post it too.....re-imbursed/small reward of course.....

No all I have to do is find my $300 glasses that I lost, no sign of them anywhere, think I lost them at Bunnings, but not handed in.....

I have now put a mobile number on the case of the other pair I have, should have done it with the pair I lost too, but a bit slack...furious

The Reader's Digest Global Phone Test:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?strip=1&q=cache:http://www.rdasia.com/the_reader_s_digest_global_phone_test

"Reporters from the most populous cities in 32 countries left 30 mid-priced mobile phones in public places in each city.

Two local reporters worked as a team one left the phone behind in a busy public place, such as a foodcourt, while the other observed the mobile discreetly from a distance. We rang the phones after a few minutes and waited to see if anyone would answer and return the phone, call us later on preset numbers we had programmed into the handsets or keep the phones for themselves; after all, they were tempting, brand-new phones with SIM cards that would allow people to use the phones if they actually kept them.

We then added up how many phones we got back to get a global snapshot of how ordinary people behave when unexpectedly confronted by a classic moral dilemma: Do I try to give it back or keep it for myself?"

Results:
http://www.praha.eu/jnp/en/life_in_prague/residents_service/have_you_lost_your_mobile_phone$5465-export.html?aid=195133

Sydney ranked 21st out of 32 cities. Out of 30 "lost" phones, only 19 were returned.

Mmmmmm, wombat told me only the other day he seems to be going through a lot of super glue lately.

I have got to the stage where I write a note to remind me to write a note where I put the note for where I leave my glasses, maybe you should start doing the same thing Vic but don't leave the note laying around or wombat will nock it off. But you will have to wait till you find your glasses or you won't be able to read the note.

I've learned from experience how useful it is to have my mobile number on all keys, sunglasses, etc. Thankfully I've only lost my mobile when it was switched on and could ring when I called it. And we both keep notebooks for note-writing, but its interesting how often we cant find that notebook
Hope you get your specs back Duh.

another helpful number to put in you phone is the number of a close friend or relative, put the name ICE and their phone number in your mobile phone, police and ambulance members will look in your phone if you need help and cannot tell them, this would be good if in your case Duh you ever loose your memory.

In regards to your lost glasses, you should NOT be paying $300 + for glasses, get your eyes tested and ask for the script then go online to http://www.zennioptical.com/  and select the frames and input your script info for as low as $6.95 inc lenses.

Thanks for the link Wombat, actually it was one of the places you got your glasses from (not the one on the link), they took me for a bit of a ride, advertise as "buy one, get a pair of free prescription sunglasses free" on TV etc. The total cost was about $600 for both.  I am not in any health fund..

$600 WOW what a rip off, next time I suggest you get them from Zenni and when they arrive take them and your specsavers receipt to the place you went and tell them that you will be shopping online in future and you will be telling all of your friends to do the same.

Ummm......well, contacted the glasses people and picked up my scrip, so for my next pair will try online as suggested !

Now for the embarrassing bit, had to go to town today in the rain, so put on a jacket I do not usually wear unless it is raining, and guess what was in the inner pocket of the jacket?  Yep, you got it, my glasses I thought I had lost !   I had checked all other jackets except this one!   First my mobile phone and then my glasses, I think I must be ready for the "funny farm".....

I have to commend Wombat on posting that Zenni Site link  I am soooooo impressed... Thank you Wombat I will be trying that site next time I need glasses. I have already purchased my contact lenses online way cheaper than at the optometrists.

Me too, have got my scrip from the optometrist which will be ok for my next pair within a few years unless I need a retest, but my current glasses should tip me off if they don't work as well anymore....  Thanks Wombat! biggrin

the only reason to go to optometrists is to get the script, then head home and turn on the pooter, this company does a really good deal.

Hi all just a little note to let you know that I have received my first pair of glasses from Zenni Optical online and they are fantastic. The script is perfect the style is perfect and the price was perfect. So thanks again Wombat. If anyone has any doubts feel free to contact me. The service was good and took 14 days by mail from the USA they even send spare screws and the nose thingies in case you need spares. Very Happy...

Slightly off topic to Vic's original post but I thought it funny anyway......

...a lady had her phone stolen then the thief used it to take photos & she received them via her "Dropbox" account.

Story here.

Cheers Neil
