So proud of a friend who has been a truckie for 45 years - he just got a letter to say that he is being inducted into the Hall of Fame in Alice Springs, taking place at the end of August this year. As luck would have it, we will be in the area around that time, so hopefully will get to the ceremony!

We went for a look at the TRansport Hall of Fame in Alice. Decided to check out the trains side first, paid our $12.00 a head and had a very interesting look around. We then decided to check out the truck side, but found they wanted another $15.00 a head to see that too. We gave it a miss...........
My hubby is a truckie, he transports horses, mainly highly priced racehorses but others as well, I did a trip with him last year from Brisbane to Darwin and return and gee I gained a newfound respect for what he does as he not only does the driving but must also load, feed, water and make sure all the horses are rested and healthy, just another job that truckies do that people don't realise............oh and by the time we got back I was stuffed, 4 days up, 1 layday, 4 days back and about 30 horses shifted .
It is such a shame to read that people travel so far to different places, but for one reason or another they do not get to see so much...The price to get intobut a lot of the tourist attractions are one reason I know. but to travel so far and not to leave with memories of some great OZ attractions is like no been there at all.
Another place that charges ( in my opinion ) over the top to go see the attractions it has to offer is Longreach...And from what I can see from going there re the son living out there is Longreach really only attracts the so called g/n, not like it gets a lot of the whiz bang brigade.and they wonder why these places are losing money.I know what you are saying re Tassie and some of the prices also, really have to pick your tourist attractions must see's out.The cruises on some of the rivers over there are the biggest rip offs.We went on one and it said sea food lunch included. For the price we payed for this cruise we almost could of took the Queen Mary cruise ship. The sea foos lunch was three prawns each and a few oysters and half a glass of cheap house wine. But we took another river cruise and payed a lot less and it was worth every $ and probable more.So yes do your home work regarding any tourist attraction you intend to go see.
The cheapest way to see the transport museum in Alice is do some volunteering there ,you get to see it for nothing and pay very little to park up in a safe place .
The transport museum in Birdwood in SA ,is a great look see,but each time we go there it just keeps getting dearer to get in.

The cost of entry into some places is amazing - we went to have a look at some "mystery craters" (can't remember where) one time, they wanted $12 each entry - they are just holes in the ground - Billeeeeeee had seen them before, when it was $2 to get in - $12 to see a hole in the ground, I don't think so!!!!!!!!
Port Arthur is another place - different scales of entry - we chose the cheapest, with which we could have gone back another day, but in the one day we saw what we wanted to see, including a bay cruise, and all the buildings etc - can't see what another $50 would have given us as an experience.
And it is not the money, actually, it is the feeling of beeing fleeced.
