gday mate I brought a hi-lux 4x4 2006 adventure camper and been all over Australia in it has not miss a beat and no they are not hot in side plus have 240v ac in them I love mine and would not swap it for any other

Has anyone hired one of these or had any experience with them? They look like they might be very hot inside during summer. I'd imagine they get knocked around when hired.
better off road ability with the slide on (everything up a bit higher)
Better interior and facilities in the slide on than in the adventure...remember I have used both.
my set up cost approx $43,000 (both new) the last adventure camper i saw was $70,000 new and over $30,000 with hundreds of thousands of kilometres on the clock.
if staying for a few days or weeks i can remove the slide on and do day trips in the ute without my house on the back (takes about 10 minutes)
I looked at every option, caravan, van, camper trailer, 4x4 wagon and decided that my setup is what suited MY requirements best.
I hired Hiace Hi-Tops, Hilux Adventure Campers, and Landcruiser Troop Carrier Campers, before making my choice, all have their good and bad points.
I like "out of the way places" and the 4x4 ute plus slide on is great for me, i suggest you approach fellow travelers for a good look at their set ups. Most people are happy to show off what they have.
I have lost count of the number of people wanting to have a "look see" at my slide on
the first thing you have to do is decide "what YOU expect to do with it"
I found when I was looking that these were so many different rigs and options I was getting confused until I sat down and worked out "what I wanted my rig to do" After that the choice was fairly easy.

Thanks for your reply again Baz. A new adventure camper is around $85,000. There is one with $1600 klms 2010 models for around $71000 in Vic. I was more thinking ex hire as you say hundreds of thousands of klms.
Yours is one of the best looking slide ons I've seen in pictures not as top heavy as some. I know I saw them at the Camping show in Sydney last year on display and was quite impressed. My problem might be getting up and down the stairs.
gday mate yes mine was ex hire you can buy them with as many k on the clock low k more money plus I had mine lifted all round with better springs I like my camper because it is easy to walk in to no high steps like slide on but everyone to there own my wife could not get in a slide on steps are to high

I'm still around and still procrastinating. I've been looking for 2 years now, changing my mind, but I'm still thinking an adventure camper or slide on is a good way to go or a Hilux based small motorhome. I have a Hiace van so I can take my time with this decision.
Hi there, we have one of these - were a retired couple and have done the tent, caravan, camper trailer thing. We bought it last October, ex hire but it was privately owned. 225000 km but it went through Vic roadworthy with no work required. The mechanic commented on how well it had been maintained. Currently touring Tassie. It is excellent in every way so far, much better than expected. I have done some modifications to suit us and happy to discuss these. It is a no nonsense unit, but very capable and convenient. Sure it has some limitations but we've yet to see something that would suit us better.
