Burgil Creek, Roma.

Hello everyone

We're thinking of passing through Roma and want a free site. Anyone know anything? Heard there could be a creek or something but I can't see it marked anywhere.

Be seeing you, Ellimay.

Burgil Creek is on The Carnarvon Highway, 16 kms north of Roma, according to http://www.caravancaravan.com.au/

Happy travels. smile

Last time we were in Roma we were told by the Info centre that 'free camps' were definately a no-no. The Van Parks were as dear as poison. I asked the girl behind the counter if they had adump point and she began telling me where the refuse tip was ??? As far as I'm concerned Roma had very little going for it.

Cheers

I was born and bred in Roma. On our last visit to Roma a couple of years I can tell you that there was no free camp in and around the town.

Council need to wake up to itself re us caravanners.

Free camp at Wallumbilla some 40 klms east of town or west to Muckadilla.

But the cost of travel to and from Roma it would be easier to go to one of the 3 ???  C.P

Burgil Creek is news to me. The creek that flooded Roma is the Bungil Creek. Only a small creek but in flood it is a monster.

Almost forgot.

There is a farm stay about 12 klms west of Roma at 60 Bindango Rd off the Warrego H'way turn north for a couple of klms. But a small fee applies. I think this is near what

use to be a rail depot call Bungewoggera ( ???)

Hope this helps.

JayDee, born and bred in Roma? I guess you would know the Bureys then. I'm a Burey descendant.

We camped at Wallumbilla. At the time the show grounds were closed. Don't know why or if it was permanent. We asked at the info centre and a nice lady said we could stay at the hall, around in a back street. It was quiet, free, and there were toilets.

Muckadilla Hotel is another option. Although I've never stayed there myself, I'm told it's good.

Beth.

I think that there would be a couple of decades difference. I was born in 1939 and left when I was 20 years of age, and I do not recall any Bureys.  The town Council need to give serious thought to us Grey Nomad for alternative camp sites.

Oh okay. There several around your vintage, but in that time period, they were further west, as in Mitchell & Mungallala. These days there's a lot of descendants around Roma as well.

My Mum was one of 11 so there's alot of Bureys around WQ as well as further afield.

Ancestry education over. winkbiggrin
