There is an App you can download where you can set up a reminder and check rego details. Only able to do one vehicle, so assume you would set reminder for earliest rego due and when that is done set for the next one. Download from iTunes app store or RTA or whatever they are called now.
I have set mine up so time will tell.
I have also reminders on iPads and laptop calendars for due dates for all insurances, registrations, rates, power, phones etc. so i always know when payments due and if any safety inspections need to be arranged. This way i know at a glance what and when payments are due and can plan ahead. You can have vehicle inspections done about 6 weeks ahead, so you have plenty of lead time to arrange.

Put it on you computer calendar. I do for all mine including insurances, regular bills etc, anything I need a reminder about and set it up with two alerts, one a week before and another the day before. As Chaslib says you can see what is coming up at a glance. I went all Apple so iPhone, iPad and desktop all synchronise for me, works great for.

If it is the case that there are no more paper renewal notices there are going to be a lot of Seniors driving unregistered cars.
I have many senior friends that do not have a computer cannot or will not access sms on their mobiles and also only turn their mobiles on intermittently so all these people would be out of contact with the RMS.
I have tried to find any info that states that paper renewal notices will no longer be issued but have not been able to find any information regarding this supposed change.
Scince they done away with rego labels here in WA the post officers have a rego size sticker that you scratch your renewal date and month very handy and great idea cost $2.00 cheap way to remember your Rego.
I would imagine that we would still get our reminders for CTP Greenslips which have to be paid before you pay the rego. So if that comes, then your rego is due as well. The link provided by Roving-Dutchy sounds like it is just a service that the RMS will provide if the customer provides an e-mail address and mobile phone number.
I agree with Turtle Trekers. Our CTP has just arrived and that has reminded me the car is due for rego - so I think this will help. They can't do away with paper entirely because there are still too many who do not have computers.
I think they will still send a rego paper so you have to take it or send it in to pay and have it stamped with an official imprint or some form of receipt number for the money you pay in . Note in NSW they are about to change their name again .Makes one ask what's this costing this time

Maybe its the over due reminder that will disappear, the current renewal notice is reguired to be able to obtain a road worthy ticket as the inspection station needs it for the correct details of reg owner, car details etc,
As of now no renewal notice no road worthy, surley they dont expect the inspection station to go on line & retreive the info.

For our van which is due in 3 weeks and I had not at the time received a renewal notice, I arranged for the safety check to be done 2 weeks ago - the mechanic just sends the completed check electronically to the RTA (and gives you a confirmation) and it is noted on the RTA system. I paid the registration the next day online and printed out the receipt. The actual renewal notice came a couple of days after and I just wrote the receipt number on the certificate. There is no sticker for the cars or vans anymore. I just keep a copy of the registration receipt in the car. The process is the same for cars and for vans. For cars the CTP is handled the same way as the safety check - you get the renewal from the insurer (not the RTA) - you pay and renew or get one from a different insurer and pay for that - the insurer/agent etc. then issues the CTP and it is automatically sent by them to the RTA. Once the RTA system recognises both the safety check and the CTP are completed, you can then pay and renew the registration - usually a day or so after you have attended to both the CTP and the check. The marvels of our electronic and paperless world!
Incidentally, I did the same last year - no paper except copy of the last renewal for CTP and rego and a computer! All authorised agents for the safety checks and the CTPs are issued with the software that allows them to upload the documentation to the RTA.
I appreciate not everyone has online access, but for those who do and have not used MyRTA before, just go online and register on their website - call up your account and your vehicle (it also advises if the safety check or CTP has not been received) and you just pay by credit card - the receipt can be emailed to you or someone else, printed out etc.
As mentioned in other posts, not everyone has internet access and for this reason, I find it hard to believe we will not get a rego renewal notification - what you don't get is the rego sticker - that part is no longer printed on the certificate. It is really very easy and can all be done up to 6 or 8 weeks before due date. I would think people without internet on the road may have someone at home (relative or trusted friend) looking after mail, regular payments or other business matters and who there is regular contact, may be able to attend to the payment while you attend to the safety check at one of the authorised places around the country.
Anyway, hope it helps.

I love NSW and have found a few places in my travels where I'd like to settle down in retirement, but the NSW (and QLD I believe) rego system appears to me to be a blatant rip-off and is a turn-off to me living there. All that mucking about having to get your vehicle inspected each year would be a major pain............ and I won't say where
The issue has raised it's ugly head in Victoria several times in the past, but the VACC (Victorian Auto-mobile Chamber of Commerce) and the RACV have always managed to have the notion dismissed by producing facts and figures saying that it's rarely the car in poor repair that's the cause of accidents. More often it's inexperience, speed, impatience, drugs, alcohol, deteriorating eyesight etc. Drivers of old bombs usually drive to the condition of the vehicle as said person is usually poor and can't afford to buy another vehicle, so they treat their old bomb accordingly.
You may wish to differ on my assessment and I'd welcome your comments.
Cheers,
Aime.

At the risk of ex-communication, I agree the cost of rego in NSW is ridiculous (should be some sort of discount allowed for owners having a clean driving history like the NCB applied to motor vehicle insurance), however, my personal feeling is the safety inspections for vehicles over 5 years old has merit and ensures both the vehicle's owner/driver and other drivers on the road that the vehicle is safe. Personally, I would prefer to spend the small fee on the inspection and know my vehicle is safe. I do however, believe this is more relevant to the younger owners of vehicles. I would go so far as to say, the system should be applied in all states of Australia.
Ok - you can all let me have it now ............. Sorry .........

Like any inspection it only represents a snap shot at that time. We all know those out there that put good tyres off another vehicle for the inspection then change back after getting the certificate or road worthy . I think brake ,exhaust systems and light inspections are worth while. Your right, it is a rare case that the body condition or the look of the vehicle is found to be a contributing factor in accidents .

I have worked in this industry most of my life, If you were to see some of the cars/bombs that are presented for a rego inspection then you will appreciate the value of the inspection as many of these vehicles, especialy the country ones can be so unroad worthy due to the conditions that they travell under that you would not drive them any where & this is what you are happy to meet when travelling down the road.
Your major pain in the butt, is nothing compared to the damage & injury that could be caused by these unroad worthy vehicles if you happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, think about it.
Yes I have seen many rejected untill repairs are done to a satisfactory level.
You may say that the owner should keep the car in good condition, The majority have no idear of what & where to look , let alone know if it is ok or not.
Ive been down this road many times, to where some owners wont even aknowledge having faulty parts even when you show them the item.
Inspections for every on & we will ALL be safer.

Ok, how do we know what amount of Rego to pay?. It is the same as last year? has there been an increase? Am I covered by CTP after the due date that I have forgotten? I await for my bill in the mail like all others. If not posted why can not a reminder be sent to your registered email address.?
Ok, no snail mail but there has to be a way to advise us of this pending account.
I would be willing to pay the extra postage, so that I am assured of receiving advise of of rego payment.
Typical Government departments. Saving a cent here and there and wasting hundreds of dollars elsewhere.
