We have our van with CIL, we did have everything else with NRMA up until may this year (been with them for 39 years) when our son made a claim on his ute which he rolled in paddock on private property while swerving to miss a kangaroo, the NRMA refused his claim after six months of accusing him of making false claim, trying to make money out of claim, not needing claim because he had use of both my vehicles, his personal loan with ANZ was for more than ute was worth, damage to ute could not have been done in a roll over,it just went on and on and we felt they were making him out to be some sort of criminal. So to cut a long story short we moved all our insurance to Apia and with having more than one policy with them they were quite a bit cheaper than NRMA. After this experience I would never recommend NRMA to anyone.
We also have a new van and have insured it with CIL, my other insurer, after 2 months dropped the value of it by $10,000. I contacted CIL through a broker and I got agreed value of what we owe the finance company. CIL have been brilliant, their insurance payment was nearly $300 less than what I was paying.
Thanks to all, this is a great forum. I have rung CIL they appear to be very good, quoted $945.97 for $69,000 agreed value. Don't know how this compares with other new vans out there. We can't wait to get on the road and meet you'all. Grey Nomads Rule

We are with CIL and 100% happy as are many others we have spoken to.
One way to reduce your premium is to have a higher excess, so give them a ring back and see how much it comes down.

I was with CIL and had a couple of claims with them, they were excellent and prompt.
However as I had multi insurance with SGIO (house/cars etc) and got a better deal went over to them for the caravan. Since that time I believe they are now owned by NRMA and seem to be getting more and more expensive.
When my policy becomes due, I may check out APIA and see how they stack up, and perhaps a couple of other insurers...
We will throw our 2 cents worth in, we use AAMI and have been very happy in fact we have both the car and house with them. Some time ago we had a flood go through the house and they were prompt and an absolute pleasure to deal with
We are also new and investigated the insurance> Previously all our stuff, cars (x2), camper trailer, house and contents was with the RACV. When we approached them re insuring our van which has become our permanent home we found that CIL had a better benefit deal. Ring around but we did find that CIL had better provisions re time in a motel room if a problem occurred. Cost for our 22' 4 year old van around $900 per year.
With all things regarding insurance ,you really only get for what you pay for. A lot of the insurance covers sound ok if you get a cheaper quote, but does that cheaper quote give you the same cover.A lot just give you basic cover no car rental/ accommodation/ flights back to your home address/ and the basic $500 cover on personal stuff. The excess can be a lot higher also if you have to make a claim. There has been a lot of discussion regarding insurance on earlier posts. Maybe type in insurance in search.
