Has anyone heard where they are seeing whales in SA. We have been told to head for a place called Cactus Beach just below Penong on the Eyre Hwy just past Ceduna. Any comments on this would be most welcome.
Thanks

There were some frolicking in the bay at Albany (WA) last week, so they might still be on their way. We saw them last year in august at Aldinga Beach, south of Adelaide, but with all our time in SA, that was the only time we saw them.

DUNMOWIN is no longer on the road and still DUNMOWIN!
We are on our way to see them at the head of the Bight on the Nullabor and they are also at Fowler's Beach which is close to Penong. Friends saw them at Augusta WA 2 weeks ago and they say there will be 50 there by July.
We saw 24 of them in late August at the bight all 24 of them had a baby, we did a plane flight over them great view from the air ,then we drove down to where they were in the water, you could just about reach out and touch them well nilly.
The best place to view the whales is from the viewing platform on The Head Of Bight. Now you have to pay to view the whales just make sure you do your research before,to make sure the whales are around in that area, other wise you will be forking out for nothing. them.
When we were there the there was about half a dozen, plus two babies. They even kind of put on a show,as though they know they are on show.
If you heading to Monkey Mia, you will be sure to see them there.
They are, also , cavorting in the warm waters of the Barrier reef, off the Whitsundays, and out from Magnetic island.Something to do with getting away from the cold?............Bill

Cactus beach is supposed to be famous for its Left AND Right hand wave breaks. Great for surfers apparently.
It's a reputed nursery place for White Pointers too. Lots of incentive to stay on the surf boards I suppose.
We were talking to a volunteer at the Penong Visitor center who's husband had been bitten by a white pointer at Cactus. Luckily survived only to die later in a car crash. So Sad. Sold us a set of locally turned egg cups. Bloody things turned out to be too small for normal eggs. Probably OK for bantum eggs though. Looked good but useless.
southern right whales can be seen around Victor harbor just south of Adelaide this time of year, best bet would be to contact the victor harbor whale center for reports,, cactus beach is ok but there's a lot of walking to do to get to a good vantage point,,over that way a place called fowlers bay often has whales in the bay itself and sometimes they can be seen just off shore from the jetty ! nice little caravan park there too !not much else though, the best spot is the head of the bight the Nullaboor roadhouse will have information regrading any whales in the area so could give them a call,

Been asking at the Fowlers Bay Caravan Park re this for our trip there soon. Was told the Whale Watch trips out did not usually start until 1st July most years. Fowlers Bay = approx. 150 k west of Ceduna and not too far from Cactus beach either. Cheers Mobi Condo aka Ian & Sally

I slowly realise as I get older that I am definitely NOT the fastest rat in the race.
Also the older I get the more I realise I do not know.
Just talking to a mate on the phone ,he said Whales and their babies are having a great time frolicking and showing off their new off spring to everyone in the harbour in Gladstone QLD. Maybe they are on their way down to Harvey Bay QLD ,as around Harvey Bay is where they normally are seen at their best.
A long way from the nullaboar, but daily updates are showing 4-5 whales each day around Portland and area in Victoria just off the breakwater and coast.
