Who hasn't done something similar.....

sat tv.jpg

First trip in this van & I forgot the tripod.  Not much fun trying to prop up the dish on a post & rail fence & make it work.

This first trip was a shakedown to discover what we forgot to pack.  The first thing (no second actually) missing was notebook & pen!

It's like having tin cans and no can opener lol...

I was going to say I haven't forgotten anything important yet...but I just remembered I did once. Les took me away for a weekend on a romantic trip. All great until I remembered I forgot my insulin...I spent 2 hours in the local hospital until I could get some. I only did that once...lol

Took the family away on a camping/fishing trip had a great time until dark then realised I had forgotten the Versa Light.

Had to pull parking light out and with a bit of McGyvering used it as a light. Now one lives in the vehicle.

Pays to have a checklist - and a notepad and pencil always in the glove box. However, forgetting things not only happens on arrival, it also happens on departure - like the GN the other day who said he'd left 2 solar waterbags hanging on a tree somewhere years ago. Hehe.

Its easy to do...
Years ago when we had the tent I remember arriving, then we unpacked all the camping gear and carried it to our chosen site, put the gas bottle and stove together to make a cuppa and got ready to cook dinner later, then,... started putting the tent up to discover we were 1 rod less!
Had to lug it all back the vehicle, stayed in a cabin that night.

LOL...............
Bent axle Bob, I did a very similar thing, got the BBQ, snags, buns, beer and everything else needed for a relaxing romantic sunset!!  No Friggin matches or a lighter.
I had given up smoking quite soon prior to this and decided that I didn't need a lighter anymore!!

Now keep two lighters and one of those clicker lighter things in a "BBQ" pack in the back of the tug.

Whilst it's rare for me to forget to pack things, largely due to my extensive check lists, what I do forget is all the things required before leaving a site.  Yes I have a checklist for that too but am usually too impatient to check it.

Things that I have forgotten to do  (almost everything)

- Left one corner steady down (blamed a neighbor who wanted to talk as I was packing up.  Don't they all)

- Forgot to lock down the hitch onto the tow ball.  A passing council worker alerted me to it.  This is where a very heavy       ball weight is an advantage.

- Left the gas HWS on.  Do that a lot.

- Left various hatches up and windows open.  A window blew off coming across the Barkly once.  Temp repairs with duct tape & later a few pop rivets fixed that.

- Left the front window cover up.  It finally fell off just as I came into Warwick from Stanthorpe.  A couple more pop rivets fixed that too.

- left one spring bar attached as I set up & tried to drive the 4WD away

- Not connected the break free wire.

- Left a door mat in the main street of Rathdowney.

- Drove off from home with the power still connected.

Proud to say that I have resisted the temptation & have never left SWMBO behind.

Still need to get $400 together to replace a 4way hatch from the top of the van which went missing from, presumably, forgetting to wind it down before leaving a spot. I used black builders plastic and duct tape for the rest of the trip.

Left a set of steps at Kimba SA Apex Park.

Chain still attached to van when driving off after unhitching.

The odd window left open.

Left plenty of hose connecters on taps.

And last of all, forgot to hand in the security card used to get through the boom gates of a caravan park,...twice. Had to post them back.

And that's my litany of forgetfullness

Cheers

Jon

On the way to Adelaide, several years ago, we forgot to hand back and claim the small deposit for the shower block key at the Madura Pass caravan park (Nullarbor).  Then forgot again that we still had the key in our possession on the way back to our former home in Bunbury.  Finally managed to remember we had the key (we have the memory span of a gnat) and handed it in on another trip back to Adelaide the following year (even got our deposit back smile ).

The shop of course of course ...

Sounds like you found it .

Is that what retired Rathdowney Rangers get up to ...  pinching door mats?

I'd come & claim it back but you are too far away from me at the moment.

I bought a new can opener when I forgot mine. But the medication was a little more difficult. 150 km and overnight away and found no pills packed! A very helpful pharmacist phoned my doctor and arranged to have prescriptions faxed through so I could get what I needed, privately he may have thought I'd lost my marbles, but he was very helpful and pleasant. smile
