Old Torana ad.

My son sent me this. They were a great innovation for the time. And a couple of famous Aussie faces from the 70's there too.

Yep, great idea but I don't remember seeing those ads. Must've been asleep.

I don't remember seeing this one either. I tried to sleep in the back of my laser hatchback like that but it didn't sit flat in the back. I did it for one night, then gave up.

no

I had a Ford XY Panel Van those days, slept like a bug in a rug in the back of it too. I do remember seeing that add though and I remember the faces too. Wouldn't have if you just asked me but seeing it makes a difference.

The bloke was on Cop Shop and the girl with the distinctive voice was in The Young Doctors. Sorry, I'm the TV/movie know-it-all in my family.

My brother bought and took one back to NZ in early 70 s. I put this up on facebook for him, got a silly comment from his son.

Remember the men's 'fashion'?  Those shorts and the hair! The Leyland Brothers kept the fashion going.

The bullying old feminist harridans would label that advertisement as 'unacceptable sexism' today.   biggrinbiggrin

My kids go into hysterics when they see photos of those shorts.  And yes, just a trifle sexist.

Aside from all that though, the tent thingy is great! An early model of some we see around these days.

I once owned an LJ Torana (previous model I think).

Its got a similar, crazy, weight-for-power ratio, I'm sure........mine eventually landed as part of a tree; and the nut-behind-the-wheel (i.e. ME) was luckily salvagable .......

so I'm not too ok about these anymore........but they sure were a bit of 'Australiana'  wink
