The further we have travelled south the more layers of clothing we have been putting on.Gee how spoilt we have been for the past three odd weeks up around the Cape.We arrived at Port Douglas to the normal hum drum of a place buzzing with tourists all over the place, we took a drive around and had a look into the c/ van parks, but decided against booking into any of them due to the fact they all looked like they were packed in like sardines. So we went out and camped at Craiglie only about 12ks south on Western side of Capt Cook Highway.Only picked up some supplies in Port Douglas, had some lunch at one of those over priced cafe's and under stated food, that seem to attract people who are on holidays, did not appear to be one local in the whole place,as most had Nikon cameras hanging from there neck or a visitor info brochure in hand.We ended up going back to Troopy and getting out a tin of baked beans each and filling up on cold baked beans. They never tasted so good. After each paying $29 for a bit of salad and a piece of fish that was minnow size.
Next DAY !!!
From P/Douglas we headed To Mossman .We turned R onto Capt Cook H/way 10ks north turn L onto Mossman/ Mt Molloy Rd .
At Mt Molloy this road turns into Mulligan H/ Way taking you through to Mareeba about 85ks.From Cape Tribulation the main road (Cape Tribulation, will take you to the Daintree Ferry, continue straight on to Cape Trib Road turn left onto Mossman Daintree Rd. Continue on Capt Cook H/Way and turn R onto Mossman / Mt Molloy Rd which will take you through to Mareeba.A really nice drive with a lot to see.
To night we are staying with relations who have a tropical exotic fruit farm here.Good to catch up with family and supply the Barra we caught up off Weipa for the BBQ we enjoyed tonight. The Waeco freezer/ fridge has not missed a beat since we left Longreach.
I agree, Cooktown much better. did you visit T.I. well worth it. bake beans, have you a portable gas cooker or similar, and a Jaffel Iron, improves the beans and many other foods you can cook simply. used to be our Sunday morning ritual, amazing the number of Kids and Adults who would ask what I was doing, didn't know what they are. you wonder about their parents sometimes.
