Great camping spots in SA

We have been camped up at " the Gap" ( #456) for three days. Great spot to just take it easy and have a look around before we move onto Tickera beach then Port Pirie for a couple of days to catch up with things like laundry stuff and a look around the general area. From there we wil goto Port Augusta and then roll into the Eyre Peninsula. At this stage we will be in this peninsula for about 6 to 8 weeks. Our look around the Yorke Peninsula has been great with so many wonderful place found . In many cases we just came across them as well as those listed in the Camps Book. Talking with the locals is the way of finding the hidden gems.

If you are planning a visit to SA be prepared for a great time as it's a wonderful state all packaged so well.

Take care out there wherever you travel .

The Eyre Pennisula is a great place for free camps mixed in with a NP parks pass ,good fishing and lots of crabs .It's one off our favourite places

I lived for seven years at Port Victoria and Minlaton on Yorke Peninsula...it was NOT called The Yorke Peninsula in those days..that's a recent marketing ploy I believe....rugged country and much to see..in those days I used to go across to Wardang Island as well....fantastic fishing areas...
I also lived/live for five years in Port Lincoln,Southern Eyre Peninsula......Port Lincoln used to be the hidden Gem in the S.A. crown because of its isolation being 700 odd kms from Adelaide however many Grey Nomads are now discovering the incredible diversity of the region..not to mention the best varied seafood in Australia IMO......
Both Peninsulas have much limestone and can be hot, dry, with little greenery during Summer months but changes dramatically in Winter when given rain.....it had not rained for 5 years in Port Lincoln areas when they had those devastating fires with loss of life......I lost personal friends in those fires...

Both Peninsula's and the Barossa Valley including Lyndoch/****atoo Valley and Gawler where I lived for over twenty years are the must sees in S.A. ,IMO......Hoo Roo

  Spent three months on the Eyre and Yorke pen. great area and equally great camping. We toured the Yorke in our motorhome and spent three and half weeks on the Eyre  touring on our bikes. We were there from late Feb thro end of May, not sure on the winter months weather wise. back for more next year.

As an aside I see my post was moderated in my attempt to say I lived in Kockatoo Valley near Gawler S.A. with a C instead of a K however naughty words apparently cant be shown.......the first word is the male of the species of bird with the female being Hen...I trust you can work out my cryptic clues...I'm certain Gary will!..being the little wordsmith that he is..and perhaps comment?..Hoo Roo

We loved Yorke peninsular and Eyre peninsular when we last visited them too.

 Its not our moderator who do this, its an automatic feature of the Activeboard site which hosts the forum. You can get around it by using a zero instead of an o...  C0ckatoo.

And as I found out recently it certainly censors some interesting words! I'm glad it does but as Gerty says, when necessary you can get around it. Even spaces between the letters helps.
