caravan sensors

Hi just wondering if there are any early warning devices available that can be fitted to the LHS topsides of a caravan?, my brother in law recently clipped a tree branch whilst pulling into the kerb and damaged the awning roller. Can happen to anyone I guess?

One GN recently clipped a service station awning. His advice is to be more careful and use your peepers.

Hi Road Runner

As 2Weis say's............... buy a set of reverse parking sensors off the shelf at a motor centre and install them.

Depending on the caravan construction, the hardest part will be the manner in which the wiring is run through to the front of the caravan, from the caravan to the tug is easy, just use another multi-pin connector.  But how you would hide the wires on the van, well, can;t say without seeing the set-up.

Don;t go for radio frequency type systems, like reversing camera's, they are affected by too many outside influences.

Hope this helps.

Mark

I know of many people that have this problem.

My fix as I have caravan mirrors is when I am in doubt rear clearances is to adjust the Patrols electric mirrors to see the van top or van bottom where applicable however one must have some for thought and prepare.

Thanks Brian, reversing sensors also crossed my mind and I suppose you could hot wire them so they stay active either going forward or reversing. another brain snap was to perhaps fit a thin wire or probe about a foot long that activates a micro switch and connected to a screamer inside the vehicle. Well all food for thought and may experiment further. Regards RR
