I have been watching Sunrise and they did an article regarding the Australian Tourism Commission or whatever it is called these days, interviewing young folk from all over the world to take on the "dream" jobs in each state, to promote the country. A variety of jobs and places were shown.
I was thinking they could save so much money by actually employing GN's to promote the country, the real country, not just the big citys' or the icons that the world already know about. From the pics and stories and adventures written about on this forum, they could set up a darn good advertising programme.
Payment, I reckon most GN's would be thankful for a tank of fuel every so often, and maybe a CP paid for now and then. People from around the world would then see the "real" Australia, and even if they never find these hidden spots, they would be enticed to come here to try and find them along with the Reef, the Rock, and the Bridge. We are so so much more than these couple of icons.

The Tourist Commission is employing a very effective way of getting long term bang out of the bucks for promoting tourism. It is well demonstrated that young people who visit a country as backpackers and the like are very likely to return as couple and family tourists later.
I would like to see more work available for GNs though and some lateral thinking is required.
That's a good idea. It would be great for the Tourism Minister to set up a web site so anyone, us GNs as well, could go on it and write about the places we go. They could have competitions for the random picked post for a tank of fuel, or a few nights in a CP or a meal for two at a pub or somewhere.
It would certainly be cheaper than paying for TV, Radio and Newspaper advertising.
The whole thing is just a joke, Not one of our own was picked. ...They want to practice what they preach about employing our own first...
If this was any other industry bringing people from else where to do work that an Oz could do ,the unions would be jumping up and down and also the government would want to know what the hell is going on, But this tourist Industry must be exempt from the fair go slogan to employing Oz people first. And to add insult to our own young, these people are on around $100.000 for the 12 months .plus food and accommodation. I was reading a twitter message before regarding all this and a young guy said what I thought was apt regarding all this ...Just another kick in the guts for the young ones who want to have a go !!!!
