Because they are accountable to no one, they use tax payers money to obtain our land at a minimual cost, then charge like a wounded bull to visit the area or just lock us out. As for parks belonging to the people, which Bl%%dy people??????????? ==== them selves!
Its time this country took a stand against them & their dictating rules.

The parks belong to the people. The people are the tax-payers. But its our elected representatives who decide what our tax money is spent on. NP's can be a wonderful facility for the people, but nobody wants to pay higher taxes, or higher park fees, to fund their upkeep. A dilemma.
I'm with you on this, the green movement have restricted access across the board with National Parks, I was most disappointed in my last visit to Tassie a couple of years ago, after setting up my camper as self contained home, I tried to visit Cradle Mountain, when I got there, I found a boom gate and camera at the entrance to the park, I was told dispite the park pass I bought on the boat, that my vehicle was too big to go in to the park, 7mtrs, they didn't tell me that when I bought the park pass, I was told to go back out of the park to park the vehicle and take a shuttle in and out of the park, this didn't suit me, I have Arthritis and have trouble carrying a pack for too long and wanted my camper in the Dove lake carpark as a base for what ever walking I could do, I have yet to do Cradle mountain, they don't care if I miss out and don't go, they get their way of restricting access, as I've been told many times by "Parks" rangers, they are saving the parks for our kids and our grandchildren, I wonder if theyl will ever be allowed to see them at all or will they just close them altogether and save the bother.

Buck
Our kids will never get to see any of it, when they close these areas off the access roads /tracks/ snig trails are left to become over grown.
They cant control what they have, no clearing of excess fuel & time will comewhen all is leveled with fire, then nothing for anyone.
Look at the warrenbungle fire, did you see any of the NP people front the media? NO.
As you experienced no access for the M/H. same with caravans. Ive been told by them to go to a caravan park as we were not wanted there. In out so called parkes for the people, bloody hipacrits.

What confuses me is that if the NP authorities are protecting our parks for our children's children, does that mean the authorities assume that our children's children won't be interested in camping? If the authorities don't want "us" there, what makes them believe that future authorities will be any different? What's the point of protecting our national parks for future generations if those generations will never be able to enjoy them for the same reasons that exist today? I get the impression that you don't need to be an Einstein to be a bureaucrat.
I have worked all my life from 15 year old to retirement 9 years ago and paid taxes some of which went to National parks and now that I can finally enjoy said parks I find that I am restricted and priced out of them. The lame excuse is keeping them for our children.
What dribble when we cannot visit the parks we helped pay for.
This is the green movement at its worst.
As I have been told and now believe, The only true wilderness is between a greenies ears.
And before you say it is NPWS not the greenies I say who influences the NPWS departments of Australia.
I am totally piffed off with our national parks system.
I approached our local Member and was told that is the way it is.

One thing that annoys me, and I would say it's most likely the same in other states then Victoria, is that when you pay fee's at National/State Park XYZ in Victoria, the $10 or whatever you have paid doesn't go directly to fund/maintain that specific park.
All the monies are funnelled into the state money pool, from there is is distributed back to parks via a grant/project style of scheme. So your and other campers money doesn't stay with the park your in.
I can, on the other hand see the reasoning for this, there are always going to be parks that have a high attendance rate, and those that have very little attendance - yet it may be those low attendance parks that require the greatest amount of money due to their remote location or access issues, or the fact they have just had very little work over the years.
Although having said that, I would prefer my money to stay with the park I am at, as I tend to stay a lot longer at the more remote and isolated parks.

The last I heard. late last year, the National Parks in Victoria were free entry, which is what all National parks should be, pay to camp sure but entry should be free, after all we. as tax payers. have paid for the purchase and establisment of the parks in the first place, then perhaps we might use them more, it would be nice to have the staff at the parks actually help maintain the parks as I'm sure they would like to instead of just being revenue raisers like the police.
