car great wall

Don't know much about their specs, but my Son in law's company in the Qld Gas fields has several utes.

They can't wait to get rid of them.  Had a few breakdowns & the ride is terrible.  He hates them & won't drive them home on weekends. Also worried about their safety aspects.

They are being replaced by the end of the year.

Don,t know about towing capacity, but mate just took one to Cape York and across to Burketown, with no problems, and no breakdowns. Bill

Can't help with the towing, but I think Bill12 put a post on a thread here saying they had a Mitsubishi Pajero motor in them?  If so, towing specs would probably be similar.....

I think it is a very early motor that was used in the first Pajero a good motor but only 2.4 litre would not be up to towing much weight.

The bloke who drove one to the cape said its a commonrail. mitsubushi motor of 2ltrs, andan older design. Has a turbo lag problem- you have to rev it to get any power. He's a diesel mechanic, and seems to like them for the price. Bill

On a quick look the transmission has 5th & 6th as overdrives in the diesel, no way.

1700kg braked capacity is pretty poor and the torque is very low.

Probably wouldn't pull a skin of a custard.

Oh and the ancap rating is very low.

Search turned up the following as the details are not included in the vehicle Tow Mass Guide. (Same for Foton and Cherry etc).

The X240 is a 2.4 petrol with a max tow capacity of 1800Kg. Ball weight 180Kg.

The X200 SUV (Station wagon) 2.0 Diesel with a low 310Nm torque. Max tow capacity 1700Kg - Ball weight 170Kg.
Auto 5 speed (with 1 overdrive) - Manual is 6 speed (with 2 overdrive).

The V240 utes including the twin cab is a 2.4 petrol as above or a 2.0 Diesel. Max tow capacity is 2000Kg for the diesel with a ball weight of 200Kg.
Gear boxes as per the X200.

Like most things in life, ya get what ya pay for.

Cheers, Ozjohn.

When I worked for a body builder in perth (they fit rollbars, bullbars, trays etc) The company I worked for wouldn't put towbars on great walls, As of a month ago the chassis specs wernt available for panel beaters for realinement. Most if not all warranty work will not be appeoved for repair in places like broome. Spent 5 hours undoing a wiring loom the other week because of lack of info from dealer network.

 Gday...

There are quite a lot of vehicles now with 5th and 6th as overdrives - everything with the ZF 6-speed - Falcon/Territory/Discovery/Jaguar/Audi to name a few.

Excellent boxes and great ratio spacing for smooth, timely, economical changes. Falcon/Territory/Discovery are all good tow vehicles within their weight restrictions.

I would even be fairly sure the new Tojo/Patrool 6 speeds have o/d 5 and 6.

Having said that - give the Great Wall a cuppla years and they will improve - Japan, Thailand and Korea as examples.

cheers - John

Hello people

I have a 2012 Great Wall V200 diesel 6 speed manual
after 9 months and 30.000k I am pretty happy with my purchase (and the $13000 saved over buying a Hilux)

I don't tow with it but use it to carry my 480kg Slide on Camper.

If interested my review is here on my blog

cheers Baz
