Diesel Chips

An ideas on the best chip to have put in. Recently did a trip to FNQ, Patrol 3L turbo towing a 17.5ft Freedom. Looks like about 18L/100 klms, seems a bit high

Hi John & Terry

I did a lot of research on "chips' before I bought a 200 series Land Cruiser as I wanted to make the Nissan Navara a bit more useful!!

It came down to the DP Chip which is a product from Berimma Diesel.
For me it was the most simplistic of the products on offer that interfaced with the vehicles electronics on the output side of the ECU, (electronic control unit) which is good because it leaves no trace of it's existance should your vehicle have to have surgury by the official service dept, you can take it off and leave no trace.
Also, DP Chip offer a drive train warranty, I know that there are "outs" before all of the comments come flooding back (I spent 10 years for a German manufacturer diagnosing failures and manufacturing defects in the warranty dept), and the cost is on par with others, they are based in Austrlaia, there are a couple that aren't, yes they have a sales network but are not based in Oz.  so for me, DP Chip.  I have on other forums relating to technical issues with the DP Chip whereby DP Chip have replaced products "no question", have re-mapped the unit to optimise it for the customer and other good write ups that would make me buy their product if I needed it.

The Land Cruiser pushes out hufe Torque and depsite having a heavy rig, the cruiser does the job so i did not buy one, perhaps I may when the Minister of finance treats me for my birthday or Xmas!!

Please Note:    I have no affiliation connection or involvement with the DP Chip product or brand and the same applies to Berimma Diesel my comments are based upon my own

       findings investigation and research

Hope this helps in some way.

Mark

Sorry, just re-read your post and need to add.................

The Chip, whatever the brand, make, model, etc, is not specifiaclly designed to improve fuel economy, in fact many reports say thet there is no improvement.  The chip is designed to optimise the fuel supply to give you the best Torque available from the engine.  Having said that, I'd be pleased with you economy, mines around 19-20 and into a head wind....... well I call BP and get a tanker to follow me!!  Fuel useage aint bad there mate....... seriously, it aint bad at all.

Sorry for the add-on bit.

Mark

agree with Mark .

sometimes , it takes Years of understanding , diesel & torque , to make sense of this .

Mate wanted to 'open' his 300hp Mack up to around 350hp .

I said . "Why don't you put a 350hp pump on yours ... He did .

I had a newish diesel -2.8Hi lux , it went , only ok . Not as god as it should have .

Went halves with toy mota for a new computer 3litre . But de-rated th fuel 10% .

Then Added th DP chip - viola 3.3 And went Terrific .

but the son kept growing  , th ute had to go .

But , old mate still has his old Mack , & it still runs great .

There is more than the chip you need to look at exhaust systems and the big consideration is the load and the load distribution you are trying to tug along. Most of us carry far to much gear that we may find useful if we broke down at Cameron Conner or the Simpson Desert but most of our holidaying is on the tar through major population centers so why take half the gear we do ?????? . Because it will tug 3 tonne is there really a need.
