On the Road Again after The Accident.

Hello Fellow Travellers,

Well we have another caravan and Nissan Patrol. We have left Newcastle and have started out again. We are in Parkes today visiting with some friends.

We are thinking of heading back to WA as we have heard there are a lot of good jobs for motor mechanics there. Just wondering which is the best way to go, (not the Nullabor). Looking at the map we can go through SA and up through Cooper Pedy or Queensland and across NT. Could anyone please advise us on which would be the best way and what the weather conditions could be. We don't want to run into a cyclone or something, being new at travelling I thought I would ask all you experienced travellers.

Thanks for reading my post and if you would like to reply, I would be grateful.

Trish and Steve.

Good to hear you are back on the road. Others will have a good idea which way to go but it would seem to me that unless you double up you are going to have to do the Nullabor at some stage to come home. Trust you don't have anymore mishaps. All the best and keep posting to let us know where you're at.

Good to see you managed to get back, I can't advise you anything except to never forget why you started.

It might possibly be a bit warmer if you head north from Newcastle, Trish and Steve. Usually our main reasons for deciding on a route is "if we haven't been there before?" or "Which way is going to have better weather?"

Which ever way you go, very best wishes to you, have a great trip.

Good to see you back on the road - and I understand why you don't want to do the Nullarbor again - but you know what they say, if you fall off the horse, get straight back on! Western Australia is a HUGE state, so I suppose you really need to work out which part of it you would most like to see - the optimum time for travel in the north of the state is sort of between May and September - then it starts to get into the wet and steamy time.

Good luck with your new transport and home -

Cyclone season up north is generally regarded as ending in May. Doesn't start again until Nov/Dec.

Both possible routes have their interesting spots along the way. Are you in a hurry, or into sight seeing along the way?

In Parkes at the moment ourselves & heading north via Dubbo, Coonamble, Wee Waa etc to Moree thence Boomi for the artesian pool there. Had intended to spend a few days at Pilliga bore baths on the way but after the recent rain not impressed with the thought of Pilliga's black soil. Will be doing overnight stops on the way as we see no need to rush. Ultimate destination in the short term is Bundaberg area but could easily take three weeks to get there. After Bundy, we'll be doing a slow trip inland to Tully.

Probably for the better weather up through the middle of Qld and across to NT may be best, like Jules says for WA May to September is the best time for the good weather and not in cyclone season for Carnarvon and above. Generally, the Tropic of Capricorn in most states for getting away from the southern weather.

Blaze is working as a mechanic in Broome, so he may know the situation as he has worked at lot in WA, although he is from Tassie I think.

Good to see you back on the road I give you top marks for continuing our journey with a new set up and wish you a much happier trip this time round. Plenty of free camps across the top from Katherine to Broome, assume you are using the Camps Australia Wide book if not it is well worth while for your trip.

Happy Travels....

Hello everyone,

Thanks for all your replies. We are in Queensland, all going well. We have just left Toowoomba, and have now decided to face our fears and head back to the dreaded Nullabor. We need to do this so we can put it behind us, thankyou all for all the encouragement.

We have some relatives in Bremmer Bay in WA so that's where we are heading. This was our original plan, we decided to go back to that and not let the accident scare us off anymore. Hopefully once we go back and across, my nightmares will stop. They are getting less but I want to get rid of them and hopefully this will do it for me.

Our Nissan and the caravan are great, very comfy. We feel we are so lucky to be enjoying this trip. Thankyou all again for all the encouragement you have given us, we would not be back on the road without it. It is only other travellers that truly understand the devastation we felt.

Happy travels to you all, I hope we get to meet some of you one day.

Regards

Trish and Steve. xxx

Just following on from Duh

I too work as a mechanic in Broome, there have been lots of advertisements on Gum Tree lately for mechanics in various outlets, so private, plus Toyota, Ford/Nissan (combined agent)
Not sure how Blaze got his position, I just knocked on a few doors and had three offers in one day.  Silly season is approaching and that's when all the tourists will be in town wanting a service or a this and that.  Have a look on Gum Tree, or give a few garages a call/e-mail.

Hope this helps.
Mark
