no matter how small the oil fin style heaters are they work best when left on a low heat for long periods and they should not be stored flat thus making them not quite so ideal for touring nomads! I have a small ceramic heater for when I have a plug in power source, otherwise I tend to simply add to the fleecies or hop in to bed early with my music and a good book! Luckily Whippets make really good foot warmers too!

We have one of those oil heaters and have used it for the past 5 yrs. it is a wonderful heat and we have been know to leave it on all night on low, especially in Tassie. We keep it in its box while travelling and when not needed it goes into the back of the tug. We did have a fan heater when we first started vanning but found it a stifling heat .
Mine is so small it doesn't need to be packed away. Only half the size of a previous 7 fin I used to own. This is not much biggerthan a large handbag. I do have a fan heater but when at Wuruma one of the guys tried it out and his battery went down very fast. Have also bought a ho****er bottle for those nights I don't go into C/P on my way south.
I've thought of buying a small oil heater but if they can't be stored flat then I'll stick to my little fan heater for powered sites, I only run it for a short time.
Today I bought a heated throw blanket 100w from Kmart $39.00. Ruby and I will be so snug.
This one is so small it doesn't need to be stored lying down, only 14" high. Will fit in the back of a cupboard in my little van easy, no different to the power box, you wouldn't lie that down.
I have to ask, do you guys have heaters already in your van? If so, why don't you use them? Nearly every van we looked at had reverse cycle heating, So now I'm worried as to why people aren't using it. Are they not cost effective or just don't do a good job? Or perhaps I'm way off the mark and you guys don't have heaters already installed? In which case, ignore my questions lol. We don't get our van (new age oz Classic 20) till October and I'm worried our air con /heater won't be effective enough. I can cope with having to buy a separate heater but I'll dive headlong into a tailspin if I discover my air con won't keep us cool! Me and summer are not friends. Lol. Am I worrying too much?

I have a reverse cycle but I found it very noisy (caravan is 3 weeks old). Not sure how fellow campers will feel about the noise. I have a small gas heater for

Hi Julie, could you tell me more about your gas heater.
Last night I froze at Wooroolin Wetlands. It was minus 1.3 Tonight I plugged into power at Kumbia, heater on. Warm as toast. Supposed to be minus 2 tonight.

Hi Helen, There are a few around, some use the disposable butane cartridges. Mine is attached to a 2.5 litres gas bottle it's an oval shape with the element in the middle. I bought it at a camping specialist store about 3 years ago. works for me. There is one friends had called the 'little sun' that went on butane. Hope this helps. Cheers Julie
Well I've had a warm and cosy nights sleep with my little heater. Not looking forward to the cold day outside so will stay here in bed a little longer.
