We have joined your site because although were not quite Grey Nomads, we are soon to embark on a year long, motor home journey right around Australia.
We are very keen to secure a good camper as soon as we arrive and although we are looking on many sites are yet to find anything suitable in the Brisbane ( or close) area.
If anyone here knows of a better way to obtain one apart from the internet, we would be very grateful.
Any and all advice will be taken on board as we havnt done anything like this before.
We will also have our oldish Boxer dog with us and have been researching suitable places for her.
You have a wonderful site and we are enjoying surfing it and reading all the positive and exciting experiences.
We look forward to our big adventure which will start approx in October this year.
*** WELCOME *** Romas, Hope you have some luck with your camper hunting , Let us know what type of unit your looking for, and we might be able to be of more assistance As you are already aware, this site is full of good people who are willng to assist and to pass on any experience or knowledge they have, So keep surfing, and Good luck,
I spent two weeks in NZ only a couple of months back, absolutely love the place, What is it ??? that makes all the Kiwi's want to travel Australia ?? and all the Aussie's want to travel N.Z, ??
Hi and thanks dazren and mongrel. Were looking for a 4 berth winnibago or ute type camper , power steering, air con, shower/toilet and hopefully solar set up for freedom camping as much as possible. Not too big ( for me to drive) and not too small that we trip over each other (or worse!) LOL Problem is $$. Seems the Oz campers fetch a far higher price than the ones here in NZ do and with the low exchange rate, we realised quickly just how limited we were going to be.
Anyone buying a camper here in NZ will be pleasantly surprised at how affordable, modern and easy to get hold of. Our site Trade Me is very well set up for buying pretty much everything with plenty of selection.
Go to the CMCA website - you can look as a non member - they have a "for sale" section on there, and most details are on the ads.
Friends of ours have just sold their caravan from this site (Grey Nomads - Classifieds) - and very happy - the people who bought it are New Zealanders as well, and intend to travel Australia.

I think our prices of MHs here are over the top too. Cheaper to buy oseas and import except for the hassles that go with it. The old Coasters and buses seem the most affordable.
Hi and welcome Romas. I was also going to suggest the CMCA website. You need to use the 'Members Market' tab. Don't be put off by the name - you have to be a member to advertise not to look at the list. The ads include contact details.
Check out the rental companies. They sell their ex-rentals fairly often. Start with Apollo, Maui, Britz, and you can google for more. I just bought a Mercedes Sprinter camper van LWB from Camperagent. They have a few on their website. It's a busy industry, and unfortunately they are not cheap, especially Winnebago. While they may be top of the range, there are others out there which may serve you just as comfortably without the huge outlay. The features you seek are fairly standard across the range. It's fun to look, but making that final decision is nerve wracking. Good luck and safe travels.
