Bribie Island catch up

Hi everyone long time no see, I thought it was time I got back on here and caught up on what everyone is up to and I discovered that Rocket and Strop are having a catch up at 'Scoopy's" on Bribie this coming Wednesday (29th) at 10am.   I have just moved to Bribie Island from Victoria after a lot of soul searching I decided I wasn't brave enough to go full time on the road so compromised with a move to a warmer climate and settle for short trips away in my little Avan at the moment.

I am really excited to be able to catch up with a few gm's so hope there are a few of you close by that can come and have a coffee or ice cream on the beautiful Bribie passage.

Rocket and Strop I hope you don't mind me advertising your catch up I'm just excited to be meeting some of you. smile

Hi Gill,

I have wondered where you had got to as I hadn't seen you around for ages, now I know why.

Wow, that sure is a big change you have made. I can only wish you all the best for your new life in a what must be a lovely part of the world.

I hope you haven't been effected by the rough weather down on the Gold Coast? I am currently in Townsville and will be for at least a couple of months all being equal and heading south down the coast when I leave here and making a stop at Batemans Bay NSW south coast, to some house sitting.

Not sure if you know, I have done a complete rewire of the 12v system in my Avan and have a portable 120w Solar Panel and added heavy duty wiring to the Prado to charge the Avan battery and run the 3 way fridge on 12v when mobile. Now I can do free or alternative camping as well as CV Parks. Love my Avan (Product anyway). Speaking of work done on Avan's, did you get that rear window fixed in the end?

Hi Doug its great to be living back in Qld,  the weather has been very kind here no where near as bad as the Gold Coast recieved but the winds have turned a bit chilly now.   I did get my window repaired finally (had to to be able to drive to Bribie) but not by A'van they just were not interested and didn't bother replying to my email that they requested I send!!!!.  I ended up getting it done elswhere the job wasn't pretty to look at but at least the window has stayed on but they charged me a fortune for their work along with a list of other expensive repairs.  I decided to wait until I arrived in Qld and get some more quotes for the work to be done as there seems to be a lot bigger choice of repairers here especially in the Caboolture area.

Enjoy Townsville I loved it there at Rows Bay a couple of years ago also really enjoyed a week relaxing at the caravan park on the beach at Rollinstone just had to watch out for crocodiles haha but well worth the visit smile

Hi,
If you are looking t have caravan repairs done close to Bribie talk to Adrian at Caboolture Caravan Repairs or Graham at BB Caravan repairs at Brendale either of whom Icould thoroughly recommend. Congratulations on your move to Bribie, we have lived here for several years now, so maybe we could catch up at some stage.
Cheers
Geoff and Bev

I have a lot going on for the next couple of weeks, so I'll get back to you. wink

Bribie is a fantastic place to drop anchor.

I have many old friends who live there & just over the bridge on the big Island.

One of my favorite places.

I have many fond memories of childhood holidays on Bribie.  In  fact at the time I was born in 1950 my parents ran the little shop or tea room i believe it was also called back then,  at Ocean Beach, And i believe we lived there until i was around 3 years old. My mum used to tell me about going across to the mainland to Brisbane in what she described as a cyclone ... As she was in early labour at the time, i guess the experience was a bit harrowing for more than one reason.  when my own children were young, we also holidayed there.

I remember my parents talking about the days before the bridge was built. Someone else may know when that was.

I went to a wedding on Bribie a few years ago, and we stayed at the golf club on the ocean side, and the reception was at the newer golf club on the eastern or northern side. What a beautiful place that was!

I think the bridge opened in the mid 60's ..... It stopped being a unique place then and started on the long road to becoming commercialized.  I have somewhere a few photos of my parents and relatives there in the early 50's
