oh yes i know about idiots driving, i see them almost every day,,, considering the "hit" we took to our plans, I'm trying to remain as positive as possible, and planning trips such as these help do just that,,even if they amount to just a planning,, I have to think that someday our plans will bear fruit other than the lemons which seem to be in abundance at the moment,, not that there is anything wrong with lemons mind you,, just tried of having to do things the hard way through no fault of our own

well i guess some of you will know that we have had a "bit of bad luck" of late, mostly caused by other people,, well the thought of selling up and heading off has been put on hold for a few years yet, but as the song goes I get knocked down but i get back up again....anyway have always had this desire to stand on all 4 extremities of the australian mainland, that is nrth south east and west so it's into the planning stage to do this while waiting on the big trip,,,I know where they all are ie south, wilson's prom , east cape byron and so on,, now the bride will be in tow as well ( to keep me in check) she's not really into extreme 4 wheel driving (gets a bit nervy) so my question is haaving only ever been as far as cooktown on cape york,, does the peninsular developmental road travel all the way to bamaga and then onto the tip,,,I know it's dirt and all but what is the road like ? for someone who doesn't really like 4 wheel driving. we would be taking an 80 seris cruiser which i am setting up now as a touring "truck" and a camper trailer.... it is petrol and not diesel but that's what i have to work with now....not sure when we'll be going i now about the wet and dry seasons,, who knows the road might be bitumen by the time we get going but you never know.....

Corrigations two foot deep, dust, lots of creek crossings & a heafty price to cross the Jadine on the ferry.
We were there in 91 & 92. but from what I saw & heard last year its full of idiots, saw many wrecks being returned to Mareeba on tow trucks while we were up that way.
Also many more vehicles left at Bamaga to be returned to Cairns via barge.
As to why people drive like this & smash their cars so far from home is no less than stupidity.
We are very glad we done it back when things were a bit more sensabile, as said we have done it twice with no damage.

The Kiwi-as and Kiwi-rainbow did it last year beachballs57. Left their caravan behind and took a tent. They will be able to give you a good idea of up to date risks.
I heard the other day that the going rate for a tow out of trouble up the Cape is $1000. Any one else heard that?
Not sure about the tow costs, but today i was checking caravan parks in Cloncurry online (or one in that neck of the woods) and i noted they have van storage and from memory, $5 a day. This caters for people wanting to go further north into the gulf country, but did not want to risk taking their van. Worth thinking about. Although for that cost, I would wonder if you would be required to sign a damage waiver?
