Where is everyone?

Rob and I are making our way to TownsvIlle slowly. Atm we are at DuarInga. There aren't many vans here neither has there been at other places we stopped. Theodore had plenty of vacant spaces, Baralaba the same. Where is everyone or are we early?

When we left Burren JunctIon there were many vans heading to Qld......... where are you all

Hi Valnrob. We won't see you because we are at home and next trip we're heading south. Hope you find some other GNs.

Hi there - We are planning a couple of months through outback QLD starting in a couple of weeks - so would welcome comments on road conditions and overnighters or extended stops along the way.  I have worked out mileage and cities/towns along the route, but value opinions and suggestions from "those who have gone before". Travelling in camper van, so would prefer amenities at stops rather than setting up popup loo and shower at stops (bit lazy I guess).  Obviously expecting many GNs on the road, but perhaps less than the coastal routes.  Leaning towards places were we can fish and kayak and free camp - battery, solar and gennie power. Trying to limit travel to absolute max of 5 hours/ 300-400 klm per day - no off-road.

Would also value suggestions for alternate routes - we have travelled most of these roads before, but at that time not towing anything and stayed in motels and caravan parks either in cabins or tented, so did not consider any free or unpowered sites. I have seen a couple of posts regarding recent get togethers close to some of these places also. Would love to hear from anyone also planning such a trip during the next few months with a view to meeting up somewhere. Feel free to PM or email me if that is easier

Draft Route

Toowoomba (Lake Cressbrook); Kingaroy ; Eidsvold; Monto; Bilolela; Duaringa; Blackwater; Emerald; Belyando; Charters Towers; Hughenden; Richmond; Julia Creek; Cloncurry; Mt Isa; Boulia; Middleton; Winton; Longreach; Barcaldine; Blackall; Tambo; Augathella; Charleville; Cunnamulla; St George; Nindigully; Copeton Dam  and then home!

Many, many, thanks

We are still in Tassie - still haven't begun the 'road' part of the adventure. FIFO to Melbourne on Tuesday for a Graduate Program for me: hubby going to help the Krishnas prepare food while I am busy.

Plan to get out of here late this year/early next.

I'm housesitting at Bundaberg at the moment, but hope to hit the road again in 3 weeks time.  If I'm right on where you are valnrob, (checked it on Google maps) then you are very close to the Blackdown Tablelands NP.  I've been dying to go there, the photos on Google Earth are stunning.  Has anyone been?  If so what did you think?

Lots of roadworks from Goondiwindi on, especially around Taroom/Theodore area. If it is raining, take special care, very slippery and lots of potholes. Take care fellow travellers.

We're still in Canberra. Still some modifications to complete on the vans. Then about Wednesday should be leaving for Leeton, Griffith,(visit rellies) Cobar, Bourke, Cunnamulla, Quilpie for about a month then off up further north after that. Not sure where, but not coming back to Canberra until the winter is over.

Hi Doug,

Yes its been very cold this last week. But, with a new baby to coo and goo over we did'nt really mind.

Sis's patrol made it to Canberra from Brisbane, but has almost given up the ghost so she has replaced it with a new BT50 to take home.

Son decided I needed more solar so replaced the one I had and put the old one on Sis's caravan. At the moment the air-con and microwave are pulled out with wiring everywhere but he should be able to put it back together again. I am hoping in the next couple of days.

Will possibly be up Townsville way late July early August but who can tell. Likely to change our minds at anytime. Will PM you if I do. Have a lovely time with family and .....keep safe on the roads

Calliope (Qld) at the campsite on the river. It's packed - vans everywhere. Heading north tomorrow (perhaps) first stop Rocky to refuel and stuff then Yaamba for the night (or two) then St Lawrence. I have to be at Airlie Beach by 11 June - I find it so stressful having somewhere I have to be, does anyone else have that problem?

So glad I'm in northern Qld rather than Canberra right now - I had winter in Canberra last year and not keen to repeat the experience.

G'day

Well I am still in Newcastle area, very cold of a night at Lochinvar camp, will be heading out next Monday to an Outback adventure of a life time, but first it will be Burren Junction, day1, Day2 will be Nindigully then to Mundubra for a week with blaze aid, then back to Bajool to drop van off. Then west to Emerald, Charters Towers and then general touring off road to eventually end up at Broome, then onto north west eventually ending back in Rocky some time in August. I am certainly getting itchy feet and longing for a bit of warm weather.

Cheers

Kev

Hi Kev - where are you staying at Emerald and Charters Towers?  They are on our "Outback Adventure" also - would be interested in any local knowledge you may have. Nindigully is at the end of our trip - we start from Toowoomba and head north and finish up  at Nindigully then Copeton Dam (Inverell) before home. No off road for us.

cheers

If you can, ValnRob, take extra fuel with you once you leave Clermont.  367km to Charters with the only fuel available at Belyando Crossing (thirty cents a litre more than Clermont or Charters - talk about a captive audience).  Guess you must have left Burren the day we arrived.
