Equal amount of potato and pumpkin chopped into big chunks along with as much onion as you can stomach. I use 1 onion per person.
Drop all into a huge pot with a lid along with about 1.5 lt water and put on the campfire.
Hint - butternut pumpkin gives best result.
Over boil until it begins to pulp take it off and mash it add salt and a fair bit of pepper. Remember the Zantac if pepper gives heartburn.
Resist adding carrot, cream or any other additions as this is a bush recipe from the 1930's.
A campfire loaf of bread made with bread flour and yeast will be most agreeable too. In fact you won't eat damper again after real bread.
