Looks like they have decided to cover themselves by not giving the wrong impression of an item to make a sale.

Probably running scared of litigation. hmm

Hi

I suspect they got a message from authorities, that the earlier Adv claiming it suitabilty "for

CONNECTING A VAN to a 10A outlet when no 15A was  not available" was not acceptable

I understand that there are standards related issues, but what's the real safety issue? The device has a 10A circuit breaker, so it's not as if you are going to be drawing 15A from the outlet. What claim did the original web page make that differs from the current one?

BTW, Jaycar's web site is down at the moment, so I only have access to this archived page:

You are probably right Peter, a lot of sparkies out there like yourself that would have picked up on the safety issue.

I can't see this being a problem is as long as it's "not used in the rain or exposed to weather" (to quote Jaycar). I use one of these at home and it sits inside the laundry out of the weather and is plugged directly into the laundry power point. My van also has an RCD and all GPOs (techiespeak for power point) are two-pole switched (per legal requirements).

I also use mine around the house when I need the protection of an RCD (techiespeak for "safety switch"), especially when using my electric hedge trimmer.

By comparison the Ampfibian is an all-weather device suitable for outdoor use.

Excuse my ignorance, but doesn't an "Ampfibian" do the same thing? Or is the problem that the Jaycar unit is not weather proof.
