Mock Fish

smile I was wondering if anyone knew what they were

I used to make them in the 70's when I first got married and was shown by my mother in law.  Grated potatoe and squeeze out the water then mix an egg or 2 in and fry both sides.   Now there are fancy recipes for them, but that's how I made them.  Not sure what the reference to fish means....smilesmilesmilesmilesmile

The avatar is the flowers my mum had at her wedding 1946

I remember these, my mother used to drop a can of tuna into them too.

The wife refuses to make these as they were for the old days.

Cheers

Haven't made them for years.  They were always a favourite in our house when I was a Kid too.

Cheers,

Never heard of mock fish before.............only mock chicken, which did not taste like chicken but was great on sandwiches.

I think we just called them potato fritters. I just looked in the Common Sense Cook Book but they didn't have it. I did a search on them and the recipe sites call them Potato pancakes. The term Mock Fish brought back memories as many commented on the recipe sites. I guess we don't make them now because we've been told frying is not good for our health.

we have them occasionally....usually when some one is having a deep fry craving!! Always were "mock fish" when I was growing up but I think the modern name is Potato Rosti sounds a bit posher!!

Yes Mock fish were a favourite growing up, as they were for our kids as well. Still make them occasionally, still love them, especially with tomato sauce.

yes grated potato and egg, drop tablespoons into greased frying pan, cook a few minutes each side. I use spray oil for a healthier alternative.

You can actually make them as a bake, just mix as usual and place in a quiche dish and bake.

cheers

Glenda
