Holiday Park Boom ?

Read with interest the artical on Grey Nomad Bikes ,useing c/ van parks due to them not being as self reliant as people owning a c/ van /motorhome. Then i read a report by Tourism Research Australia. There had been a 10 per cent boost to nights spent in caravan and camping accommodation CEO Stuart Lamont said the strong growth in the sector was a result of the Australians looking for better value holidays.Dommestic visitors within the caravanning and camping sector in 2012 totalled 9.467 million(5.837 million) in c/ van parks.(3.63. million)elsewhere or 13 per cent of the total domestic tourism visitor numbers.Leasding domestic travel were N/T with 11 per cent increase in over night trips second was ACTwith 9 per cent increase third was WA which recorded 8th per cent growth.Report went on to say the figures showed that parks were a clear leader in a generally growing market .The marketing has been towards growing the domestic consumer interst in this type of holidaying that previously not have considered this option. So with 30.3 million visitor nights for the past 12 months .So from reading all this regarding how byont the industry is having ,a recon( a few free camps/ low cost camps should not be taking away all that much revenue .)

Well you should have a read of http://www.freechoicecamps.com.au/ and all the newspaper articles they have collected in the one place.

The CRVA is certainly complaining with their campaign. I can't understand their attitude, I use free camps, pay for campsites and caravan parks and I'll be buggered if any industry (CPs) will dictate to me that I must use them. That's just un-Australian.

we love to stop in parks when we have the money but it's not really the same as parking in the free camps or bush... our home town has no free camping nearby anymore and they seem to be closing down the caravan parks to put up over 50's housing everywhere, I guess they don't want the holiday maker in rv's anymore.... and yet, a few k up the road in another town they put a free 72 hour stop with a dump point, it's always got some rigs in there, we've even stopped there ourselves... and I'm sure they get a lot of $$$$ in town for this.... I know I've done my shopping there many times!
