Was just reading on Kombi Club Forum, the HOO ARRRR about the council in Mudgee regarding the reason behinde the closure of the show grounds there to camping,It said (quote )That counciller ?? was not here to represent a small numbers of people who are too miserly to pay money at local c/van parks .So they can get it cheaper, at the show grounds and who trash the town . He said we do not want them here (unquote ) Well mr counciller i will bypass your town and go some place where i cannot be seen as trashing your town...Would also make sure i did not even have to fuel up there. So thought i would just post this your question.
great to hear what you guys have to say but it does seem very unfair when you work all your life and then get a chance to see a bit of this great country of ours you get called ferral, i say to the councils support the ones who have supported you.

If the circumstances were the same as Wingham (NSW) show grounds I would support the councillor some what.
Short term users of the show grounds are very few, and at $25 a night, not cheap for what's on offer in my experience, but its damn site cheaper than at Old Bar.
Where the problem is (and my office overlooks this) is the undesirables, and apparently you can't discriminate, that book in, and have someone else ( as they don't own a car) drag in some unregistered un-roadworthy $500 Ebay special (sometimes 2) move a family of 6 in, and then build some sort of shanty next to it, let dogs and kids run wild as they are too stoned to care, as long as they get there welfare entitlements, life is groovy, and some days I feel like joining them.
And then they wonder why Grey Nomads etc won't stop, or go to the free camping at the riverside reserve, which can create extra work for the council.
But at the end of the day its the council and government that have allowed this, so really they can't complain.
I have no problems with councils excluding grey nomads BUT please put the sign up as you enter the shire so we can hurry through.
If I know of a shire like Mudgee I have a red ring around it in my camps book and plan my travels and fuel and food so I can get through with out leaving any of my dirty money in their shire.
Regards Brian

One would think if this kind of behaviour is happening in your area re garding building the shanty town set up, why is the council not moving into remove them.. it must have a over night or x amount of days allowed posted on this area. If not the council is creating this behaviour. And who suffers in the end .. The Town as normal decent people would just pass through it.
Like many others I guess, I have seen the entire contents of a toilet casette tipped out in the middle of a bituminised overnight stay.....in the most prominent spot imaginable....this is not sheer filth doing whats easiest for them... this is someone with a mental problem and a huge grudge against society....I doubt you will ever change their bastard attitudes..and the chances of actually seeing them in the act is nought, as rat cunning is in no way linked to any form of intelligence...of course Grey Nomads will be blamed because we are on the road perhaps more than other demographic groups......go figure.....Hoo Roo
P.S. it could have been anywhere I guess, however it's probably only fair to say this was near Port Pirie S.A......and no doubt nothing to do with the good folk of Pt Pirie...wonder if these pieces of filth have their kids witness this sort of mindless behaviour ensuring so ad infinitum....I simply cannot believe it would/could be a senior citizen....

They did around election time, but now its blamed on the show ground committee, which is in trouble due to conflict of interests, then they blame the caretaker.......
Was interested the other day to read a piece in a magizine about how the grey nomad traveler
is buggering things for the normal holiday maker, some of the things mentioned were over crowding of camp sites
arriving to places in to big a mobs, over staying in the free camp sites, just being allround free loading blugers,
I would love to hear your views but I know why I always go bush with the dog I injoy his company better then most people.

I think its a case of everybody being tarred with the same brush. A few people do the wrong thing and all travellers and campers have to endure the repercussions.
We are on the road for an average of 4-5 months a year. While staying in caravan parks, the general rule with the owner operator is they try to ensure that you will return at a future date. When travelling in WA's west coast, we, the GN's were regarded as WOW's, (Wallets on Wheels).
We find that the smaller towns are out to welcome you with open arms. Quilpie is a fine example. There, the towns folk are very friendly and willing to assist in any way possible. The shop keepers went out of their way to satisfy your needs, in our case one stayed open until the job was finished and without charging extra for their time. We will be back for another visit to Quilpie in the future.
Rubbish is a problem around day and overnight stops. We find that dirty disposable nappys and toilet paper is the main problem. Parents are not taking responsiblity for the disposing of nappys. The bins are not large enough or the councils do not empty them regularly. If the bin are full we take our rubbish with us and empty it later. I'm sure a lot of GN's do the same
Unfortunately it takes a few to make hard for the rest.
I agree with you Two Strays every thing you have said is true and im sure every traveller has some negative and positive imput they can had, one family admitted saying they were on a working holiday rather then being tagged as grey nomads it makes me wonder.
If I find a heap of garbage dumped somewhere, I'm not averse to checking out whether there are any addresses or identifying info on any paperwork that may be present (you'd be surprised how incredibly stupid these types can be) and handing it to the local council. A bit different in your case though Golddetectornomad as the only identifying information would possibly be a date stamp on the paperwork. Good luck with that.. ;)
