I have a bread maker, I hardly use it. I can't stand the taste of those premix bread flours...yuk. I make my bread, when I use it, with my own ingredients, I only use the machine until its a dough. I take it out, raise it and then bake it in the oven. It tastes so nice, much better than the premix stuff.
Steve, try looking in OP shops, secondhand dealers and garage sales. I got two bread pans this way. They were heavier than the cheap ones. And they are brilliant to bake bread in. I think they were ex bakery shop ones.
Who needs a breadmaker when you have two hands and a bowl?
I totally agree Gary although because I was a touch typist for many years doing data entry I find my wrists will not knead the dough as much as it should be done. I do however have a mixmaster and a dough hook and I time it to knead the dough for 8-9 minutes and then shape it to put into a pan after the proving of course. It turns out better than my breadmaker which I gave to my daughter lol.
I also have a sausage maker and I have to say making your own snags is so easy and taste so much better and I can also mince my own beef, chicken, pork etc which is so much cheaper than buying already minced.
I find this hard to believe. Can you state where you have read this? Just ÃÂ because we read things on the internet does not make them true.

Cannot believe what i have just read , regarding someÃÂ bakeryÃÂ businessesÃÂ wanting to ban electricial shops from selling breadmakers, due to the fact that they recon it will end up putting the bakery out of business. Were will it all end...Does that mean that before long we will not be allowed to fish ,as it might just put the fish and chip shop out of business
I read this on another forum i am a member of.called freechoice camping
We have a lot of such sayings on our website http://www.freechoicecamps.com.au/index.html to prove a point as to why should caravan parks be so special and demand our patronage. We also have said that should fishing be banned because it would put the fish and chips shop out of business, should we not have BBQ's in parks because it would put the takeaway out of business and hence the saying should breadmakers be banned because they would put the baker out of business. Nothing sinister intended - just trying to get a point across on our website.
One good thing about this thread Herbie, it reminded me I haven't made a loaf for some time so I got out the trusty Panasonic & made a Lauke Multigrain mix again. Yum
