As you maybe aware Pat and I manage a park and it happens to be near Lakes Entrance. Have not utilised the forum for over a year now but have been watching closelly the change in membership for the better. For those that hung on, congratulations.
As I like to banter and have strong opinions on relative issues I am looking forward to other views. I hope Gerty is still aroung and the many other colourful characters as well.
I won't promote the park we are in except to say, find us. It will be very worthwhile. We have worked hard for the 14 months here and have on offer, seniors rates and the nicest park in the Lakes area. A great base to enjoy the area from only 8 minutes from the madding crowd. We struggle to attract the volumes we deserve offpeak as we are 4 k's off the Princes, but those, generally from recomendations, love it here.
Dog friendly except Xmas and Easter, camp fires and all forms of accomodation on offer will give you the oportunity to decide yourself if we deserve to be considered.
Last season for all the reasons made clear was a disaster for all forms of tourism. It was forecasted a couple of years ago but most involved in this industry hoped it may not eventuate as badly as predicted. Clearly the rot set in 2 years ago with the Queensland flood event, the rising dollar and the oportunity to travel overseas cheaply. Travellers filled the park at Mallacoota, some 600 sites as and indicator of fear to venture any further until confident the rain events ceased. We know the sad conclusion but it not only affected Queensland, but us as well. The passing army of tourists were not there, a very slow and dissapointing winter followed. Xmas 2012 wasn't any better for the same reasons, Sydney was developing also, and again Mallacoota was the indicator. Overseas visitors numbers that were predicted just never arrived, namelly India and China, but they also want value for money. I can just hear some comments as i have some of my own, but tourism flourishing tends to allow the industry to survive.
Believe me, free camping won't always be there, I hope I am wrong, for Pat and I will need to utilise this facility ourselves when we retire. But it is obvious that there is an element that is hell bent on ruining it.
So, WHERE IS LAKE TYERS BEACH?> and I say GOOGLE it.
When searching Lake Tyers and Lake Tyers Beach both bring up different sites. Lake Tyers, the history and Lake Tyers Beach has many other relevant features associated with tourism.
Lake Tyers Fishing, Great site with many links to local interests. Thanks to Ian in the past and now NO FUSS GUSS.
90 mile beach, extends past our park all the way east to Cape Conran. Our park has easy access to this beach, but we don't have a sea view, wouldn't want it either. Wouldn't allow my kids to swim there either but Red Bluff id renown for surfing oportunities. All of our sites are protected from the wind as we are in a hollow. The reputation of the cleanest of ammenities will satisfy all seeking this as rightfully the priority.
We are a Holiday Park ( actually a Retreat ) aiming at peak time, only Xmas and Easter, to offer a holiday experience to the many families that flood this park every year, as they always have.
We offer 2 villa's, 10 cabins and all forms of sites for caravans, limited number of very large units and sites powered or unpowered for true campers, for some reason in the bush like experience. Maybe age has caught up, heh!
I don't want to fire up the subject of parks versus free camping as it appears to me that both arguments need to survive.
For those who seek continually free camps, good luck and enjoy but help to look after this privelage.
Many travelling with their wives or partners need parks and will decide which parks are deserving of their choice. An honest assesment is a recomendation to us, although word of mouth is a slow rewarder it eventually recognises our efforts to give the experience sought.
To the Big4 bashers, they focus on families and supply the very high standards and facilities required, enjoy these parks offpeak when we know we can.
So Where is Lake Tyers Beach, have a look on Google, utilise Google Earth, Read Badgers Caravan Park Reports, cover hundreds of park reports, a great travellers bible.
Hope our efforts will be rewarded with a visit, a coffee, introduce yourself as a nomad, look around but feel free to leave gracefully even if we know, your tooooo fussy.
Looking forward, as we have in the past catching up in the near future.
Gets lonelly here in the best winter weather in Victoria.
When ever we see this discount thingo aimed to get a serior or who ever into these c/ parks,we just keep driving past ,as to me and a hell of a lot of us who are still working or do not fit the senior stats , we all know it is a rob Peter to pay Paul set up.And i an many other working travelling c/ vaners are not prepared to prop anyone up to be able to stay in a certain c/van park...I know i am going to get flack from this post but ,i feel we all are travelling and should be treated in the same way. If the pricing in these type of c/ van parks were reversed all hell would brake out .

So when you are sixty-five you wont be asking for the discount to which you will be entitled herbie? I agreed when I was still working that the seniors discounts and pensioners discounts were discriminating against the working people. But I sure am making up for lost discounts now!
When i am 65 i doubt if many c/ van parks will be around to even offer me the discount...They just have not kept up with the travelling publics wants/ needs ,and a industry that dosn't cater for what the public requires is doomed. And all this fuss regarding them up in arms about free stop overs is detremential long turm to the very business they are trying to protect. As if some people have not got the choice of a free camp , they will just sell there rig set up or just head to a river and park up not far from their home base ,then every one misses out....And i will not get the pension from the goverment i will have to fund my own .Should have spent up big in my youger days and not put the nest egg away for retierment and maybe i woul be intitled to a full pension....In my next life i sure as hell will be doing that.

Good on you Grahame and Pat, wondered how you were getting on. Still planning to come see you, still keep getting held up with domestic trivia! Winter is a great time to travel in the southern states as its nice and quiet.
I would have liked to hear a bit more about what you are offering us. Would like to know why I should stay with you in preference to a free camp. As far as I can see $35 to park overnight is not value for money.
Ignorance about pricing or the weather is bliss. A debate would be a waste of my time with a mindset like yours. But thank goodness we are not all alike, it would be very boring. Good luck with your ventures.
Hi, Gerty will be great to catch up, $25.50 for seniors is not too bad but then some would complain about the gst on nothing anyway.
One of the benefits of travelling in the off-season is discounted prices like this. In winter we aren't very good at bush-camping, need 240 power for a heater!
I agree $25.50 Is a good price for seniors, I would stay there if up your way? and it is an area i have not been to very much so one day ??
Also you are right 95% of people on this forum are great, and Cindy does a good job as '' Mother ;; controlling her children, ensuring we use our manners, and be nice to one another, So we do not get the high volume of 'opinionated'' agree with me or be wrong'' type of members, like you find on other forums,
Good luck with the park, and may see you there one day
I am not what is deamed as a senior,so would not get the discount, but would not use any more power/ water/ than the person deamed as a senior, so why dicount for one type and not another,we all are still travelling.
Graham & Pat - wish you all the best in the venture and I just may drop in one day ... in your very long post (where you say "I won't promote the park we are in except to say...") ... you mention Badger's Van Park reports. I just had a gander and there are two listings for Lake Tyres - the Caravan Park and the Holiday Retreat.
I assume you are the "Retreat" ? Last 'traveller's report' is three years ago. (the Van Park's last report is 12 month old)
I guess no-one has yet to provide a report on staying at your Retreat. Time you suggested the happy campers bung in a report to Badger. Word-of-mouth re value-for-money is extremely valuable to we budget-conscious old farts
Cheers - John

I know where Lake Tyers Beach is - we came through Lakes Entrance not so long ago, and took a drive out your way - thought if we came back, we wouldn't mind staying out there, rather than in the hustle and bustle of the Entrance CPs' - and offering a seniors discount is a good drawcard, I like to have the choice, of caravan park or free camp - we do both on our travels, but usually steer clear of the big parks, preferring to support the little, and often, independent guys.
Good luck - hope things go well for you - I know how much work a caravan park is.

I don't think I am ignorant of pricing. nor about supply and demand. Nor about market forces. Nor about how big money uses its power and influence to the disadvantage others. You may say you are not one of the large park conglomerates but you are part of the association.
So when you are sixty-five you wont be asking for the discount to which you will be entitled herbie? I agreed when I was still working that the seniors discounts and pensioners discounts were discriminating against the working people. But I sure am making up for lost discounts now!
However I do know that councils see Caravan Parks as Cash Cows. I also know how much it is to put a slab down supply sullage and power and landscape the site. This is extremely costly in some Shires due to the added cost of development applications etc etc.
So to my mind $25 to $35 is a reasonable price for a single night with a discount for weekly stays. In these seaside places.
I have been to areas that have reduced their tariff in the off season to a lower rate, this type of pricing seems fair to me.
Now in remote areas the councils have camping areas and caravan parks that in some cases are as low as $5 per night so that travelers stay and keep the town alive and this also is a just and worthy price.
I also bush camp more often than not and do need to do so to keep my costs down. (we are self sufficient)
So all in all a mixture is what this country needs.
Lastly when I am in this area I will definitely give Lake Tyers Beach a good look.
Anyhow I will debate this issue no longer. Tecnomad has achieved his/her objective of obtaining free advertising. Good for you. Though somhow smacks of freeloading ie using this site for no cost.

Maybe we will see more of this free advertising now that he has achieved his bit of free PA.

No one is saying that Cindy does not do an excellent job on here .Why are you saying such remarks as that.? Cannot see why you are bringing Cindy into this discussion.
