Just propped here at Boomi for about a week and, speaking with the locals yesterday, I was provided with the activities for the Day.
This quaint little town is living in a suspended growth atmosphere .. A few years ago some locals formed a "co-op" to manage the Artesian spa/pool and the local store, and they've done extremely well.
A sign of the times is also reflected in Anzac Day here .. Being a small country town and with the ANZAC representatives being primarily of senior elderly status, there is no Dawn Service held and the "March" starts somewhere between 1000 - 1030 hrs and covers the distance of about 200 metres .. their attitude however has not diminished ..
This is only one of many small towns in Oz .. and no doubt that same attitude persists through-out ..
We stayed there last year for a few days. Unfortunately the day we went to see round the Gin they were having problems so maybe next time. Loved the Artesian spa and the way they would cool it down or warm it up for you. Had great conversations with people whilst in there!
.. only a few days here and already at home with the place Gail .. great people for sure!
More than likely I'll catch up with Barb & John in the near future Rod .. just had another great dinner down at the pub too !
Looks like I'm going to have a ball tomorrow too .. Dianne (publican) is setting me up tomorrow to do the music after the ANZAC service has completed ..
Gonna get the cobwebs outa the Fender sound system again and you know what that means Rod .. good fun eh ! .. 5 hrs of Oldies & Country !
Do worry mate .. I've been thinking the same thing .. The days have started quite calm but then the wind does pick up. Hopefully I'll still get to do a flyover before I leave and can leave some copies for the locals to use ..
Apparently there are the school kids marching and a pipe band .. and still will be 8 ANZACS marching as well ..
sounds like a good day here .. you guys enjoy yours too !
Thanks Jon. always watch the march on t.v. Watching for my dad's lot 2/4th field ambulance. Hard to find them for the last couple of years, probably none left. But the memories remain. Lest we forget.
John
