About time I got back in here eh what! We've been home for a little bit getting medical things sorted.. then we took of to the southwest of western Oz with friends.. they've just got themselves a caravan and we wanted a looksee...
We took off from there over a week ago and have been making our way to the Ayre Highway for the long haul over east... would you believe we've broken down near Madura, we limped back and now waiting for the part.. good job hubby is a mechanic and a deisel one at that.. it was only a water pump but it did sure make an interesting ride back to Madura Roadhouse here we are parked in the caravan park out back from the roadhouse :)
Was wondering where you had got to AJ, have missed your posts.............sorry about the breakdown, not a great place to be stuck but you are so lucky that your hubby knows what he is doing as those things could get quite expensive, especially for labor I would think in those parts, hopefully all bad luck is behind you and onwards and upwards from here.
Hope you get sorted out quickly and resume your travels.
Just replaced the water pump on an 08/04 Ford Escape. Quoted $1200 by Ford and they didn't even have the part in stock. Had to come from Melbourne. This from one of Brisbanes biggest ford dealerships.
Ended up getting an aftermarket pump from Bursons for $149 and fitting myself. The pump manufactured by the same company that makes the Ford factory one.
Oh yes, the Ford dealership said I needed the 2003 pump but the car, an 04 model actually needed the pump from the 2001 version. Pump quoted at $649 plus fitting. I would have had to wait for the other one when they found out it was the wrong type.
Well although I am an engineer I had never worked on this vehicle before and it took me only two hours to dismantle remove and refit the new pump and renew the thermostat and refill with coolant.
I do feel sorry for those that don't have the knowledge or ability to do these relatively minor jobs them selves.Big difference in cost when you have to go to the manufacturer to get the work done.
Looks like we're going to be here a few more days, Brian the owner is going into Norseman tomorrow and he kindly offered to go pick it up for us to make sure we get it.. he said they are awful at forgetting to pop packages on the trucks and he's waited weeks sometimes for parts.... we're just lucky he has to go pick someone up tomorrow. This place is not a bad place to stay at, they are very friendly, the showers are hot, they have the basics and we are fully stocked with food etc, just going to be a little lower on water than we'd like mainly due to the slow drive back to this place.. we had to pour water into the bus all the way here.... so it took a bit, mainly our washing up water. We still have out shower and drinking water on board so all is well :)
