Have a safe trip to the other extreme of the thermometer. Can't imagine why you want to head to the cold though. I can't wait to get back to the warmer weather.

If you're reading this Doug, to get away from the humidity, I would have headed inland, where the nice warm but not humid weather is starting to happen, then work your way over to perhaps Normanton and west to the NT and WA, then work you way down the WA coast and south WA around August/September and across to SA that way. 

By the time you get to SA from Townsville now it is going to be very cold and blustery down there and no fun!  Just for your info, it is starting to get cold here in south WA at the moment, so many nomads are thinking (or have already left) for the warmer climes of Carnarvon and north from there.

Anyway, sounds like your mind is made up to go to SA now, so hopefully you may strike some good days, if it gets too bad suggest head up the centre of SA on the Stuart Highway towards Darwin and explore that area where the weather will be a lot warmer and better.

 Duh, great suggestion but I do need to shake of Me and Myself before they find me and they will never think I headed south again. I also need to solve the melting problem and um, well, what's the word, mmmm, yep, solidify again.

I have made a note of your suggestion and could maybe reverse that perhaps. No plan yet.

I'm sure you will find some warm hospitality down south to keep the chills away. You are very good at making friends where ever you are I know what you mean about the heat though - still 35 aorund Alice so not really feeling like doing much - and I am heading north

Doug, it is a shame you are leaving up North so soon. I guess coming south though will bring its own adventures and special moments. Look forward to hearing all about them just as we have went you headed North. The South coast provides lots of interesting scenery and little ports of call, of course this will depend upon how South you are headed and where you decide to set up camp.
Good Luck with it all, I am sure you will have fun wherever you travel, and meet interesting people along the way. Keep smiling, and playing in the playground.

Thankyou Neil and Ruth, I know who my friends are. I agree, it is easier to keep warm and I will find a way. I am actually looking forward to the SA Coast now that I made the decision. Doug I know how you feel about the Qld weather which is why we left after 22 years up there.  The humidity is getting worse every single year.

Have a wonderful eventful stay in SA.  I was born there and later went back with the Army and had my eldest daughter over there so I know it is a beautiful state.  Stay as long as you need to to recover from that stinking humidity my friend.  But please remember to shoot me a quick sms message whenever you stop at night on the way down so we know you are still okay.

I agree with Brickies and Duh. April is still pretty warm in NQ. And the heat seems to have stuck around in Qld later this year.

I can understand the humidity affecting your health Doug. I'm a born & bred Qlder but I can't handle the really high humidity.

I went to NQ once in Feb for my friends 60th,,,never again,, she can celebrate her milestone birthdays without me in future.

You come to SA Doug as it is really mild weather not cold.
There are many places to get out of the wind, just watch the weather forecast and plan you travels around them. If they forecast a gale etc head inland a bit or find a little nook where you are sheltered from the wind.
You have to put your sailors hat on and look at the weather and the maps and pick your spots when the weather turns bad.
But you will see sights in the winter that the fair weather people miss out on.
The birds are different and the plants are green and the country side takes on a different look.
Many of the go north in the winter people should try at least one winter down south so they can see what they are missing.
I spent 8 years in QLD working trying to get them out the SH*t and they did not appreciate it so have no plans to venture back. Too much to see down south where the people are friendly and the good sites are close together.
If it gets too cold venture up north to Willow Springs and have a different experience, and it is always nice during the day and there is nothing better than leaving a warm fire at night and jumping into a nice bed and snuggle into the blankets.
Don't forget you can run an electric blanket for a while to get the bed warm as they don't use a lot of power.
