Well as you know I was in Townsville all last week and tried very hard to get used to the heat and humidity but unfortunately it got the better of me and I was feeling very down, yep I buckled under pressure so after a week decided I better change my plans slightly so I decided to leave earlier than planned.
Now I don't give in that easy usually but It was leave or I might have been carried away from there.
I have been going to Townsville every April for the last 5 years and never found it that bad, never mind them's the break. I leave Monday morning.
Now what to do, so I had one of those committee meetings and it was decided and put in the minutes that I head to the South Coast of South Australia, I have never been there so South it was. I say I as I am going to dump Me and Myself, they are getting in the way, bye lads. That's also in the minutes, I made sure of that.
I know I am going to the opposite end of the thermometer but hey, a change is needed. Instead of melting in the tropics I'll more than likely freeze my butt off seeing I'll be close to the Arctic Penguins.
Needless to say not much happened during the week in Townsville, I did get to spend time with the family and got to know my grandson, so all was good. I also managed to catch up with some GN's so that was good too.
I hope to be down South by Saturday April 27 all going well so I will see what adventures I come across along the way, I wonder if it will be like coming up? Time will tell.
As for Townsville, I WILL RETURN and soon maybe, you never know your luck in a big city. So check this space.
No pics this week.
Until next week, keep Safe,
DOUG

If all goes well with our car, we may cross paths, or even meet up?
Have a safe trip to the other extreme of the thermometer. Can't imagine why you want to head to the cold though. I can't wait to get back to the warmer weather.
If you're reading this Doug, to get away from the humidity, I would have headed inland, where the nice warm but not humid weather is starting to happen, then work your way over to perhaps Normanton and west to the NT and WA, then work you way down the WA coast and south WA around August/September and across to SA that way.
By the time you get to SA from Townsville now it is going to be very cold and blustery down there and no fun! Just for your info, it is starting to get cold here in south WA at the moment, so many nomads are thinking (or have already left) for the warmer climes of Carnarvon and north from there.
Anyway, sounds like your mind is made up to go to SA now, so hopefully you may strike some good days, if it gets too bad suggest head up the centre of SA on the Stuart Highway towards Darwin and explore that area where the weather will be a lot warmer and better.

Duh, great suggestion but I do need to shake of Me and Myself before they find me and they will never think I headed south again. I also need to solve the melting problem and um, well, what's the word, mmmm, yep, solidify again.
I have made a note of your suggestion and could maybe reverse that perhaps. No plan yet.

Doug - disappointed you are leaving Qld so soon - will only be a couple of weeks till the humidity goes away, shame to go all that way and turn around again, when this is the time people are heading up that way - we will be back up in a week or so. Good luck whatever you decide. Keep in touch.

I'm sure you will find some warm hospitality down south to keep the chills away. You are very good at making friends where ever you are I know what you mean about the heat though - still 35 aorund Alice so not really feeling like doing much - and I am heading north

Hey Jules, I will go back at some stage but when a lot less humidity, my health is needed. I will be still in the playground just down south. I think I will just park the car for a while and just chill out, mmmmm, maybe chill is not the correct word but will enjoy the palyground anyway. I will keep warm some how.

Doug, it is a shame you are leaving up North so soon. I guess coming south though will bring its own adventures and special moments. Look forward to hearing all about them just as we have went you headed North. The South coast provides lots of interesting scenery and little ports of call, of course this will depend upon how South you are headed and where you decide to set up camp. Good Luck with it all, I am sure you will have fun wherever you travel, and meet interesting people along the way. Keep smiling, and playing in the playground.
Sharon.

Doug, take no notice of those who say it will be too cold. Briche is in SA and we were there in May/June last year. Yes, you will need winter woollies but it's always easier to keep warm than it is to cool down. Enjoy your trip and your destinations.
Thankyou Neil and Ruth, I know who my friends are. I agree, it is easier to keep warm and I will find a way. I am actually looking forward to the SA Coast now that I made the decision. I haven't been there so all unchartered lands to me. It should be good because I ditched Me and Myself today and now in hiding.

Hmm Dougwe ?? you could have a problem there ????? Those two you ''ditched'' have Emailed me to ask if i know where you are, I told them ''None of your business'' and refused to tell them ! [ as any good mate would ! ]
HOWEVER they informed me that they are going to talk to ''Wombat'' as he cannot keep a secret, and will dob you in for sure ???
Also ;; a complaint ; mate ?? Why don't you sell your Camera for extra Fuel money, ??? as judgeing by your last up-date, You don't use it anyway. and those of us that are not sharing your playground at the moment not only like to read about your exploits, ? we like to see the pictures as well. Ok ! complaints are over ?? Now get yourself a warm jacket, ? and get your butt moving towards S,Aus, See Ya Mate ------ Daz

Don't take any notice of them either Doug, we have your interests at heart and are trying to guide you into the more pleasant climes of Oz at the this time of the year. Jenny is not going to like the cold weather either! Having lived in SA for a period, those Antartic winds go right through you!.
At least most of the RV traffic should be heading north or inland now so you should have a good run south.
I know you have some business to attend to down south but maybe later you could head north to warm up!
Doug I know how you feel about the Qld weather which is why we left after 22 years up there. The humidity is getting worse every single year.
Have a wonderful eventful stay in SA. I was born there and later went back with the Army and had my eldest daughter over there so I know it is a beautiful state. Stay as long as you need to to recover from that stinking humidity my friend. But please remember to shoot me a quick sms message whenever you stop at night on the way down so we know you are still okay.
Hi Dougwe, Having a ball in Mt Gambier with my friend Sharon, she leads me up the garden path and I lead her back again but not the same route. Starting to rain and cooling down but I am with you, the heat is not for me.
We are heading into SA in the next few days so back out in the adventure playground. Talking about playgrounds, I wish they had adult ones as I still like the swing and slides. Did test the slide out at the caravan park but alas ones bum didnt fit the slide. The swing started to creak and groan-I am not surprised.
Not to good at handstands anymore, but the main thing is I can still laugh at myself with myself.
Keep driving, hands on the wheel and sing your heart out,
Hope we cross paths down the track Sue and Rod

gollymolly, they do make playgrounds for adults. In some parks the councils have put in fitness equipment. While in other places the council are trying to charge for those who run fitness classes in their parks. Not sure they have swings tho. What a pity. Sorry Doug - we hijacked your thread!!!
You come to SA Doug as it is really mild weather not cold. There are many places to get out of the wind, just watch the weather forecast and plan you travels around them. If they forecast a gale etc head inland a bit or find a little nook where you are sheltered from the wind. You have to put your sailors hat on and look at the weather and the maps and pick your spots when the weather turns bad. But you will see sights in the winter that the fair weather people miss out on. The birds are different and the plants are green and the country side takes on a different look. Many of the go north in the winter people should try at least one winter down south so they can see what they are missing. I spent 8 years in QLD working trying to get them out the SH*t and they did not appreciate it so have no plans to venture back. Too much to see down south where the people are friendly and the good sites are close together. If it gets too cold venture up north to Willow Springs and have a different experience, and it is always nice during the day and there is nothing better than leaving a warm fire at night and jumping into a nice bed and snuggle into the blankets. Don't forget you can run an electric blanket for a while to get the bed warm as they don't use a lot of power. Regards Brian
