Satellite Dish Mounting

Brian

I made up a very similiar set up using the same fittings, pipes etc.   I even mounted another clamp on the A frame to support the dish while travelling.   After a couple of trips I noticed that the back mounting bracket on the dish cracked at all four holes.   It was caused by the wind resistance against the dish, making it virabrate whilst travelling.   I have sinced re-enforced the bracket, but now store the dish under the bed while travelling.

I noticed in an earlier post that you had a bit of a problem setting up the dish.   I find the most critical point when setting up the dish is to ensure that mounting pole be dead vertical and level.   If you don't have it level the other angles will be slightly out, making it difficult to set up.

Happy Viewing   Brian

It would not bother me if the number plate was covered over, but the law stares it must not be obscured by any thing. Would hate for the guy to get fined that is all...I think it is a good iada if it makes life on the road easier for him,but could become an expensive idea if it is covering the number plate .I thought everyone knew you were not allowed to obscure number plates.

Sorry about the number plate issue i was wondering about, No i never read your post just had a look at the pic you posted on here.

Please except my appology.

Regards Herbie.

Not wanting to drag our Satellite dish in and out of the van or car, around the ground to find the best spot, and setting up with wires running everywhere I puzzled over the best way to mount it and still be able to manouvre it around for reception I came up with this idea... permanently mounted on the A frame but easily swivelled out to point it in the right direction, and then anchored safely when travelling......  DSCN9080.JPGDSCN9083.JPG

It looks like a niffty idea ,but may i ask ...does it cover your number plate up or is it still visable. As mr plod may not like the number plate obscured. It is hard to tell from the pics.

I doubt it would cover the number plate (of the car) any more than the (much larger) caravan does.

Does it really matter if it covers his number plate? Surely the caravan is covering the number plate anyway. Well done briche. From my female look at it, it sits on the caravan a frame not the car. Enjoy SA.

Just to clear up peoples misunderstandings. The dish is mounted on the "A" frame of the caravan. So the matter of blocking the number plate is not an issue. It's obvious that some did not read the post all the way through. Hope that sorts out the issue. Thanks to all for your comments especially those of Two Strays, your thoughts are noted.

Great job Briche.

You may find at some stage in the future you may have a line of sight issue with trees, van etc. I thought of doing the same as you with the option of having a quick disconnect of some sort if required.
