I use Prish Resizer. [Freebie, and very simple.] I forget to do it sometimes lately though. Will have to get on the ball. They recommend resizing to 640.
I just go into where-ever the pics are, right click on one, and a drop box comes down. Click on Prish Resizer, and you get another box with different sizes. Click on the relevant size, and it will go into a Re-sized file. From there, you up-load it to the site.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Please down size photo's before uploading, a photo that is too large takes a long time to upload, also creates a photo on the web page that must be scrolled to see the photo it also affects all other posts on that thread.
An easy way if you use Picasa is to select your photo's then export them to Pictures as you do this you are given the option of resizing, they then appear in Picasa Exports folder you can then select the ones you want to upload, this is also usfull if posting on Gumtree and many other sites, if you don't downsize you photo's for Gumtree you will find you cannot post your photo's as there is a limit to the number of bytes you are allocated for your For Sale advert
This is just one of the ways you can resize photo's
Thanks RD - I always downsize before posting a pic, as I find it annoying to have a photo take up so much room, it affects the following posts in that you have to scroll across to see all that is written after the posted photo!

My photos were big like you are saying, I haven't done anything different and now they come out small, there must be boogies in the iPad.
I apologise for my big photos... I'm having great trouble posting photos lately. I always used to do it as an attachment so they are small unless you really want to look at them. Cant do it any more, if they aren't "inserted" then nothing shows at all. The "submit" button doesn't do anything, if its been auto-saved to drafts, I can re-open it and then submit... have no idea why.
I always have trouble too, but I didn't know I could downsize them from Picasa to My Pictures. What size is recommended?
Obviously I haven't read the how-to in Picasa. Typical.

I usually post my pictures 800 X 600 pixels for landscape, if they come from the blog I use the picture image at the top of the post but from the laptop I resize them with Paint and upload from "Attach Files"
Gerty you shouldn't have to apologise for your pics being too big. These things happen and we should all accept it.
People posting with their pics too big doesn't worry me even if I have to scroll across. It doesn't take long and I just read it then move on. I wouldn't even think of complaining about it though.

This subject has been brought up regularly on this forum and still there are so many that ruin a good thread by huge photos spreading for miles. When I see one now I back out of the thread as can't be bothered with all the scrolling. How many times do they have to be told.
I just resized a photo in My Pictures by right clicking on the photo, then edit, then resizeed it to 640 as Sheba suggested. All much easier than http://www.picresize.com/ which I was using.
I clicked on attach file, then insert, and it was there in the box in an instant. Great!
Then I clicked on submit and nothing. Not even the wheel was turning. I even tried to click reply again which I'd found worked the other day. Nope, lost it all.
So my problem isn't now the resizing, it's getting the damned thing to submit. grrr

I don't know how they can even get them to upload when they're that big! I can't! I agree though, it's too hard to see them properly at that huge size.
I just go to "My Pictures" where the picture is stored, right click on it and click on "Open With" then choose "Paint", when that opens choose resize up on the left, change the top figure from 100 to 35 (backspace on 100) this changes the size in both little boxes, then click on the "save" symbol up the top left of the screen and it is done and ready for uploading at any time.
Once that is done on a pic, if you want to see the size in my pictures, just hover over the pic and it will show the new size.
In the case of GN, open a post field, type in your words, click in the box underneath "Attach Files(s), click on "Browse" in File Upload, which takes you to My Documents, choose Pictures, find the pic you want, highlight it, then open and it will put a link in the the File Upload field, browse for more if you wish and add them to the following lines, then go to the bottom of the GN File Upload field, click on "Upload Files" button, then when the uploads have loaded (field goes from grey to dark) then click on Submit Post on bottom right side.

I'm only getting the attach files box now Vic, not the browse and file upload as it used be. I don't think it makes any difference, because I can still get the photo into the 'post box', it just won't submit.

Very sensible Michelle, on a scale of 1 to 10 big images don't even move the meter for me.
I would also suggest people be cut a little slack on this site when posting images and links, odd things seem to happen at times for no obvious reason.
